I use one of those old game.com ps2-usb adapters and have been having reoccurring problems with EA games, FIFA 08 being the latest.
It's driving me mad as everything works fine - i follow the regedit suggestion of amending the settings to read the controller as Dual PSX-USB Adaptor - apart from that when i press the left analog stick down during a game (an unavoidable habit) it works like the 'start' button and takes me to the main menu.
It appears to be assigned to Button 10 but that does not appear in the devdata files or anything.
Does anyone have a clue how i can disable this? Or is there another work around?
