Controlling a single player after my pro gets benched?

In career mode, I do pretty well with my created player, but if I have an off game or I run out of stamina and get subbed, I've pretty much lost the game. I'm horrible at controlling the entire team. I'm wondering if there is any way to control a single player in the same way as your created pro after your pro has been substituted.

This made me lose the semi-final against LA Galaxy, and I decided enough is enough. Really hoping you guys have a solution for me, thanks! (Y)
