A week ago or so I subscribed to your boards to find out some info on FIFA World Cup 2002; whether it was a good buy for Playstation 2, or whether I should stick with FIFA Soccer 2002. No help. Nobody gave a rats ***. I've been to dozens of boards and I moderate a board myself (car club) actually, it's always sad to see threads go unanswered, this time it was mine.

So I tried it. I went out and blew $50 USD on the game and beat it within the hour. No editing, no additional leagues, no teams, no players, except for the 24 National teams. It must be different on PC, because there's got to be some reason you guys like the game...

I just don't see how EA can justify charging full price for this half-*** game. FIFA Soccer gave seemingly unlimited editing capabilities for PS2; as all of the FIFA's have since N64... The only missing link was the World Cup itself - I have no idea why it wasn't just thrown into FIFA Soccer 2002. So what else should one expect when buying another EA title of the same genre? The same capabilities - not some 'single-tourney mode' arcade-ish kid's game with absolutely nothing to offer other than the ridiculously simple 7-game march to the World Cup. This game should have been sent to the purchasers of FIFA Soccer 2002 as a fu**ing patch - not sold for the same amount!!

EA has always been a great title - despite what others may swear by, in the US, it's seemingly the ONLY damn sports title that's worth a flip. Thankfully I was able to take this pathetic excuse for a 'game' back to the retailer and receive a full refund. I'll wait until Aug 15th when Madden 2003 is released and purchase it instead... I only hope EA hasn't taken the Super Bowl out to sell it under a different title. However it wouldn't surprise anyone at this point.

Thanks for reading my rant if you made it this far - I know it's not PC-related and it probably should be locked, but, I just wanted to leave one last post to say a sarcastic "thanks" - you guys sure are helpful. I asked if the game blew, I got nothin'. Ironically a week later someone posted "the game blows, there's only one mode..." which was great, damn helpful a week later. Hope you guys enjoy the PC version, I'm sure it's badass - I played NHL 2002 religiously for a while on PC, nothin' like having the capability to patch, edit, and fix whatever you deem necessary... Just hope you help people like me a little more promptly in the future.

Adios muchacos... :)

you are right, but dont blame the others for your fault man !

If you had searched this forum you would have found lots of threats about all these issues you mentioned.

Fifa is crap without editing, so never by a PS or other console version unless you are 10 years and dont know how to install Patches and stuff ;) :crazyboy:

I gotta agree w/ BolzerMike. Not sure what you're talking about, JamieD -- looks like several people did answer your posts (within a day, it looks like!) and gave you some good advice on other games.

Also, looks like you copped a 'tude pretty quickly, not a good way to win friends..

Well, better luck next time -- really, stick around. This is a great forum, and I've found the best of the best are very helpful, even to a nobody like me.

Thanks for the replies... The thing is the replies I received pointed me to games like WE9 and other funky achronyms that I don't understand - however after further research 99% of the games suggested aren't available for USDA PS2's, that's another topic that was consistantly rubbed in my face.

I searched every thread applicable to PS2 but found little of use - only people slamming it left & right, no useful information. People don't understand how big game consoles are in the US, PC gaming is in decently sized demand, but remember you're comparing $199 USD to about $1000 USD here (if you're a half-way computer savvy shopper), obvisouly PC is the way to go with most games.

And to the Canadian - I did return the game. Eh? :p

Seriously, I'm just ticked that no one replied with decent, applicable information regarding FIFA WC 2002, I asked about gameplay, options, etc - you guys can't be that vague to newbies... we're obviously needing some valid and specific information, that's why we make message boards.

Anywho, thanks for the replies this time guys.

Thats the way it should be. ;) If ur not satisfied than you will take it back so EA will learn how to listen to their fans.

Yea, hopefully the sales figures (or lack thereof) will show them just how little WC2002 was appreciated. It really was a sleazy way to make an extra buck. Take an option out of one game and sell it as a sequel? That's just plain wrong...

My experience with FIFA WC 2002 and my subsequent Enlightenment...

Hey jamied22,

I'm with you 100% on the FIFA WC2002 game being a total suckfest. I got caught up in WC fever in June and bought it for my Sony Playstation2 (PS2) . . . big mistake. I tried to return it, but would only get "store credit". So I exchanged it for World Tour Soccer 2002 (AKA: WTS. WTS is sold as "This is Football" in Europe). WTS sucked too. I checked out this forum, specifically the "ISS & PES" forum. The long and short of it is that I ended up getting Konami's "Winning Eleven 6" and I've never spent a better $ on a game. "Winning Eleven 6" (or WE6) is the latest edition of the Winning Eleven series by Konami which is only sold in Japan. NOTE: There have been several soccer games sold outside Japan which are based on the Winning Eleven engine, such as the "International Superstar Soccer" series for the Nintendo 64, "International Superstar Soccer" for the Sony Playstation (PSX), and the "Pro Evolution Soccer" game for the Sony PSX and PS2 sold in Europe.

As you pointed out in your previous post, it's a big pain not to be able to patch and update games once you've purchased them. I think someone made the point that you should stick to PC games because you can't patch console (PSX/PS2) games.

On the contrary!

Thankfully, with help from others on the soccergaming forums, I was able to get an English patch for WE6, and I can now play WE6 on my USA PS2, translated into English (pretty much everything but the announcer commentary). I don't know if you have a PS2 or not, but if you do, check out http://winning_eleven_6.tripod.com for a page where I describe the steps I used to patch my WE6 import CD and then play the patched version on my PS2.

Also, if you don't have a PS2, you can still play the import Playstation (PSX) games "Winning Eleven 5" or "Winning Eleven 2002". Both are Japanese imports, but can be played on a PC using ePSXe, the "Enhanced PSX Emulator". There are various patches out for the PSX WE games (Winning Eleven 5, Winning Eleven 5 Final Edition--or WE5FE, Winning Eleven 2002, etc.).

If you like EA's FIFA series, and you played through the whole World Cup in FIFA World Cup 2002, you're obviously a big soccer gaming fanatic. You owe it to yourself to try the "Winning Eleven" series of games. Comparing EA's FIFA to Konami's Winning Eleven is like comparing a youth soccer team to Real Madrid. Once you actually see the two in action, you realize there's no contest.

I'm speachless. You went to a lot of trouble to help everyone out, that's pretty remarkable. However it makes me bitter realizing I spent $300+ USD for a system that I'd have to break my neck over to get a decent game for. :( I really wish Konami would get WE6 in production for the US...

Thanks guys for all your help.

Your first 2 points are very true:) But the last one they is a better answer, just don't buy fifa games for your console:) (H)

EA are a monopoly!

EA are the Microsoft of games. They dominate the market totally. The sims is a perfect example of this dominance. WC 2002 is good for a short while but I just get far too annoyed at the positions and stat faults. Zambrotta is not a wingback naturaly is he? EA should have a look at CM now that is a game with depth.

They did the same thing in 98. Nobody should have been surprised. It's a WC game.
