Ummmm.... Wes Brown Hater... Maybe you should play the game first.

I find it really hard to review anything with which I have no first hand experience, and since this thread is all about the gameplay (which you have no experience with) I don't believe you should even be posting here.

Seeing as Beckham isn't availible in the demo, the comment about weaker left feet is also inapplicable to this discussion. Perhaps what you say is true about FIFA 2004, though I severly doubt the validity of your claim with respect to FIFA 2005, seeing as I have experience playing the demo (quite a bit).

All this hatred towards EA smacks of underdog syndrom. Basically a game with a lesser following, develops a fiercly loyal fan base who find it necessary to promote their infatuation through derogatory comments directed at the biggest name.

Why do so many people hate Manchester United and Real Madrid? Because they are big clubs, because they win alot. People like to see their "team" win no matter what, and they'll jibe the other side in the process.

As far as the game goes, I think its great. FIFA 2005 is a massive improvement over both of last years offerings (euro 2004, fifa 2004)

Within the first minute of gameplay I thought the game was something special. Players move in a very fluid manner, you actually have to take into account your player's moment, direction etc... especially when dealing with defenders. Defending is somewhat of an artform now, instead of waiting and pressing a button and winning the tackle every time.

All sorts of moves, different first touches, the subtleties in the differences between players is great! You can feel the difference between Henry, Pires, Cole etc... Some control well, some tackle well etc... and to varying degrees. Very freeform.

Using the same engine as FIFA 2003 means that a lot of the old scripting and player movements are still there, but they have been greatly improved. THe whole shooting system is much better, the player AI is well done too. I actually deked out a keeper!

As for realism and difficulty... well, I turned on world class and it felt like I was playing against world class players. Not impossible, but very very difficult.

A game like FIFA 2005, which is realistically a role playing game with a twich gamer add on plays out like the real football matches I see on TV. Different players feel like they are supposed too, which is a relief, and I know I havn't even scratched the surface of the special moves.

With all the liscences EA has, and this wonderful looking new manager career mode I am extremely excited and can't wait to get the game.

One thing that the PES series doesn't have are all the liscences, and without them half the realism in the game is gone. EA has done well creating an immersive football game. A game I start to play and realise that I FEEL like I'm there, in the game, managing the real players, making the actual pass, cheering in the stands, I get quite emotional too. PES has never felt like that, too much is lost in translation in PES.

FIFA 2005 is much better than FIFA 2004 in every way shape or form. YES I will be buying it.

(A simple fact for PES zealots, if the game was so much better than anything out there, then you guys would never have to spam and flame EA and FIFA message boards. Because every one would be playing it... hope that is some food for thought)

Incredibly well said and I agree %100!

I also completely agree with AndrewC's points here.

Well I've played the game for about 6-7 hours in total today.:| :( :|

My biggest problem with this game is the attacking problem. One time I had both Henry and Reyes in the opposition penalty area and my four midfielders back inside my half. Now, what the fuck is up with that?:|

Also, why the hell the centre backs act as if they are glued in their positions, I mean they hardly seem to move from there except when they are making a tackle.:|

Another thing I hate is that when I use the "trigger player runs" button, only one player advances forward.:

Corners.......retarded.

Free kicks..........retarded.

Penalties.........retarded.

This game is a huge improvement over FIFA 2004, but EA Sports still has a long way to go in making a fully enjaoyable game for it's fans.

Regardless, I'll still be purchasing the game.(H)(Y)

That`s the answer from Andrew when I asked him about the weaker foot effect in the game at the hands on thread. I use Beckham only as an example.

I don`t try to review anything or convince anyone which game is better. I only post my opinion after I read some people`s posts after playin` the demo and from my previous experience of playin` FIFA . Comments from the likes of Mouta or Niceman, never got into my consideration because they practically the same type of guy.

I`m very curious about the first touch too. I`ll try the console`s demo. I wonder is this First Touch feature is something very revolutionary in the game of football or is it just something that has already been implemented in “the other game” years before and EA only use it as a marketing hype ( like you can lob the GK feature in the Euro 2004 advertisement ) ?

disagree. one thing about it that i really like is the way it flows. it feels like the real thing and most of all: you can decide which speed you want to play at -- whether fast attack or slow build up. much more realistic IMO than PES where the CPU constantly plays pressing, regardless which team it represents.

the goalie kick offs are a bit strong, though.

Who cares? It's a feature that is new in their game and they are promoting it. it's not like "that other game" has a copyright on it, or does it?

-- Peugeot invented the foldable metal roof back in the 30s. Mercedes used and promoted it wildly with its SLK 60 years later.

-- Americans promoted their satellites and space rockets even though Russians were first with Sputnik.

-- Bill Gates promoted Internet Explorer (wich you'll probably use right now), even though there was Netscape way before.

-- Konami is promoting that it licenced a couple of clubs for PES3/4. EA has been doing that since years.

So what's the deal?

Well I guess it`s a lot better than in the two previous FIFAs where the goallie can hardly kick a ball for 20 yards . . .

im confused why these PES fans think that PES has first touch like FIFA. Ive played PES tons and first touch is very different to the way PES plays. Also ive found that long distance shots are a lot more difficult to score now.I played the demo for an hour last night i scored 10 goals. Not one goal was long distance, also i noticed that the Off the BAll mode is a million times better.

I scored a goal by making my player run forward with off the ball lobbed to him,i then used first touch which knocked the ball over the defnders head and hit the ball on the volley. Know that is what you call a classy game.

PES is a great game but i just prefer FIFA,yeah i have to say i thought 2004 was pretty crap to play as it had this weird mechanical feel 2005 though is a whole different way of playing and now you can really take on players. I also scored one goal by getting pass two defenders and then side stepping the third one then finally slotting the ball just to the side of the keeper. It looked bloody amazing.

Well done to EA with FIFA and trust me i dont by any old ****ty game i have decent taste and a good 20 years of gaming experience, ive played a crap load of games trust me.

Go to FIFA vs PES and we can discuss...

I wouldn't say that first touch is revolutionary, but it is quite helpful, and it goes hand in hand with the fact that the players can actually control the ball. Though I played FIFA 2004 to the ends of the earth, I will admit that the ball control was aweful, and it got worse in Euro 2004.

In FIFA 2005 they have really put emphasis on the fact that professional footballers CAN control the ball, and whats more, many of them have little neat tricks which allow their first touch to more effect at creating space. This is where the whole shift, or extra game stick comes in. Many players, mostly the elite players, have little moves which can be implemented quite seamlessly upon recieving the ball. These moves greatly increases the flow of the game and also allows you to beat defenders.

As for PES having a similar system I'd say yes and no. PES has some good ball physics, mainly when it comes to player initially controling the ball, and dribbling with the ball. EA has made an effort to "mimic" this type of action as well. Though PES has a first touch feeling, it doesn't incorporate all the fancy special moves that EA has into its title.

Basically the whole "first touch" system is simply a new repetoire of moves that are availible when recieving the ball. EA hypes something new every year, and as far as I can remember this is an original set of features they are hyping, yet I wouldn't call it revolutionary in the sense that it will transform future football titles forever.

The bad thing, if EA keeps adding features the same way they do now, is that you will need a 1000 page manual to understand the game moves and you'll need to go to "finger gym" to keep up with the game.

Good points. After I bought FIFA 2004 (PS2) I swore never ever to buy a FIFA game again. But this one feels like a huge step ahead. Again, i like the way the players move. the passing is also just about right this time (except maybe the lobs, which seem still to be too lofty) and even the rocket-speed shooting of previous versions has been toned down a lot. It also seems way more difficult to score than before... then again, i haven't been playing it a lot.

One thing i especially like with this one is that you can outrun lame defenders with, say, Pires or Henry. You couldn't do that in earlier versions and you can't seem to do it with any version of PES. and as verbatable said, the special skill tricks flow in seemlessly and actually give you an advantage at times, rather than just being show-offy.

i also think the players look quite good this time. Henry in particular looks awesome (Shevchenko OTOH still like a bloated midget)

Quibbles there are still, for sure (for example the still over-exaggerated spin on crosses and those cumbersome corner-kicks).

So it'll be this one for PC and PES4 for the PS2.

^^totally agree with this guy............i aslo told myself never to buy another FIFA game after 2004 but after playin 05's demo, daaaaaamn, big improvement in player movements, passing, and alotta other things. The game is lookin solid but still doesnt quite have that totally free feeling that WE gives players.....but props to EA, look alot better this yr. This game deserves a rent ;)

i also agree... FIFA 2005 is just a huge leap ahead for EA's series. and IMHO it has finally surpassed PES in gameplay.
