FIFA 07 head models compatible with fifa 10 but...

Hi,

some time ago, i opened this topic http://www.soccergaming.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156819 asking about compatibility of fifa 07 head models with fifa 09. However by that time everyone (even Rinaldo) seemed to think they were incompatible so i thought so myself and i gave up trying so i kept on playing my heavily edited FIFA 07 because without my fictional character-like players it wouldnt be as interesting playing the newer FIFAs and it was a really hard work to remake all players with the new head model format. However recently i decided to give it a chance again and after some testing i was able to figure out a way on how to making these head compatibles with FIFA 09 and now with FIFA 10 as well!



On the left, the player as he looks in FIFA 07 and on the right the same head model as he looks in FIFA 10. As you may see, they look pretty much the same, the only differences are the shadows and some effects present in fifa 10.

This discovery has saved me a lot of work, because now i just need to perform some minor adaptations in the face textures so they match the new format for fifa 10 but the head models that are the hardest work remain the same! however, i did find a little problem and thats that FIFA 10 doesnt support png transparencies for face textures. This is what happens if you use a face texture with a transparent part.



The left side shows the player as he looks in FIFA 07, his arms are invisible because the texture file is mapped to be that way, the part for the arms is transparent so arms are invisible. However, on the right you may see FIFA 10 doesnt support transparency and it shows a black texture instead.

This is the reason im posting this topic, i hope someone of the fifa experts who visit this forum can help me and give me some hints on how to achieve FIFA 10 supports transparencies just as FIFa 07 and 08 do and so i finally can release this patch of popular fictional characters as players. Believe me, its really worth it!

Great to see you again Destrones, a little off topic question, you think that i can use fifa 08 faces in fifa 10 for some old players like Anders Svensson, Kevin Nolan, Wesley Sonck, etc. who didn´t get a new specific one in fifa 09, i think if you cover their arms with long sleeves they could look more normal.

Yes, you can use any head model from fifa 07 or 08 in fifa 10. You just use CM10 to import the models. The problem is with the hair texture because you cant import a hair texture for a fifa 07 head model with CM10. You need to import it with CM08 and thats a little tricky. Actually thats what my discovery is all about, to use CM08 for importing the hair textures since FIFA 10 dont use png images for the hair you cant do it from there.

Thanks for the advice, but it would have no point in making the arms invisible (the guy is supposed to be armless) if i cover that with sleeves because the main objective is to show this guy has no arms. Also the lack of transparency support has effect over the hair textures. Since they were designed for fifa 07 and 08 which support transparencies they have transparent parts so they dont show correctly in fifa 10, thats why i need to resolve this issue at any cost, otherwise it doesnt look good.

Really?? you mean its possible to have different bodies for each character? that would solve most of my problems!

Destrones you edited the fifa 07 textures so they match the fifa 09 format, because i tried in the past with the unmodified fifa 08 textures and the players face looks weird (aside from the hair problem).



I have to edit the fifa 07 or 08 face texture like this?

Yes, you have to edit the face texture into the fifa 09 format and make the changes in the UV map of the head model as well because the region for the face in the fifa 09 format is smaller than in fifa 07. After you finish just import both head model and face texture using CM10. However, for the hair as i previously said, its a little trickier. You need to open your z_data.big file with CM8, import all the hair textures you want and then with CM10 regenerate the fat file so FIFA 10 (or 9) can read the hair texture from the z_data.big file. Be careful and remember to backup your z_data.big files and also database just to make sure.

Now, the problem which is also the reason of this topic, is that neither fifa 09 or 10 support transparency for face and hair textures so we need to figure out a way to fix that, otherwise you will see black or any other color backgrounds as well as borders in the hair.

All head models are compatible. You only need to make some minor changes to the UV map so it fits the new fifa 09/10 texture format. Its basically just scaling down the face mapping in oedit, it takes you not more than 3 minutes.

Destrones i´ve tried to do what you explained but so far the results don´t resemblance a normal human face, i thought that you could apply this process to one particular face: Kevin Nolan´s face, i know that this request is far from your real goal but my editing skills in this department are so lame that this is my last resource.

Bien, deja te explico en espanol mejor. Tienes que editar primero la textura de la cara de acuerdo al nuevo formato usado en fifa 09 y 10. Al hacer esto, obviamente tambien tendras que editar el modelo 3D de la cabeza, especificamente el mapa UV para hacerlo concordar con el nuevo formato de textura. Basicamente solo necesitas usar la funcion de escale para reducir y darle el nuevo tamano al mapa que corresponde a la cabeza porque si te fijas, ahora la cara ocupa menos espacio en la imagen que antes. Una vez que hayas hecho la reduccion posiblemente tambien tengas que mover el mapa de los ojos mas arriba en la imagen (para esto tendras que ponerlos en la textura tambien) porque si los dejas muy abajo, al parecer fifa no los encuentra y entonces los pone negros totalmente.

Debes de tomar en cuenta que aunque los modelos de fifa 07 se pueden usar en 09 y 10, nunca se van a ver tan bien como los modelos en el nuevo formato porque estos tienen mas vertices y po lo tanto la imagen sera mas detallada que los modelos de fifa 07 que tienen menos. Los modelos 07 en fifa 09 y 10 tampoco se veran exactamente igual que como se veian en fifa 07 porque fifa 09 y 10 al procesarlos superpone automaticamente una capa sobre la textura de la cara que tu colocas para darle un efecto como de piel granulada e incluso las sombras de los ojos, nariz y boca por lo que es muy importante que cuando edites la textura de la cara de fifa 07 uses una textura en formato 09 y hagas coincidir exactamente los ojos, nariz y boca de ambos.

Aqui unas imagenes para explicar mejor.



La de arriba es cara en formato fifa 07, abajo a la izquierda la cara fifa 09 que use de base y a la derecha es la cara fifa 07 adaptada al formato fifa 09. Ve como el espacio para la cara se redujo en el formato 09.

Entonces por eso con oedit tienes que editar el modelo 3D para reducir el mapa de la cara al nuevo tamano

Asi se ve la nueva textura en el modelo original formato fifa 07 antes de adaptarlo



Y asi se ve una vez terminado



Si te fijas solo hubo que reducir el mapa de vertices al nuevo tamano y ahora la cara se ve como debe. Tambien reubique los ojos y los coloque cerca de las manos, donde fifa 09 o 10 los pueden leer sin interferir con las texturas de las manos y piernas.

Finalmente, asi se ve el jugador en fifa 07 y asi en fifa 10



Si te fijas, en la imagen de la derecha, se ve una sombra en los ojos y debajo de la boca que NO estan en la textura que hicimos. Estas son sobrepuestas por fifa 10 automaticamente y no hay nada que podamos hacer para evitarlo por lo que tienes que asegurarte que coincidan con la cara del jugador para que no se vean mal.

Y solo como bonus y para el recuerdo, el mismo jugador en fifa 2002!!

Diego, no uso msn pero si tienes alguna duda enviame un privado si quieres, aunque con el tutorial que puse no deberias tener problemas, es bastante facil.
