FIFA 2003 Club Championship mode

Does anyone want to speculate on what 18 club teams EA has decided to feature in their new Club Championship mode?

EA's usual bias in favor of England means at least 3 or 4 EPL clubs -- certainly Man U., Liverpool, and Arsenal. Bayern Munich, Leverkusen, and maybe Borussia Dortmund from Germany. Roma, Inter and Juventus from Italy. Real Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona from Spain. Could be a Chelsea, or Deportivo or AC Milan in there, too -- perhaps all three.

That leaves only a few more slots. They mention Galatasaray's stadium, so the Turks are in. Gotta be at least one team from Holland (Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord). One from France (Lens? PSG?). I wouldn't be surprised to see Celtic in there. Eastern Europe will be shafted, as will Scandinavia and Portugal (unless they get their license worked out).

Well, all I can say is that it is a bloody scandal if Milan aren't in the CCM (being a fan and all, I am somewhat concerned). The 2nd most winning club in European football history, the 2nd biggest club in Italy, playing in one of the most famous stadiums in the world, with players like Rivaldo, Shevchenko and Inzaghi in their squad. Even though Milan haven't won anything major in three seasons, the club is still a lot bigger than Roma, who will most likely be in the game. Fourth place in Serie A and UEFA Cup semi-final last season... if EA pick the team based on results in the previous trouble, there's a chance Milan might not be in it, but if they base it on reputation and history as well, I'd say the Rossoneri are set for the CCM (As you have probably noticed, I am a bit worried about this and therefore need to reassure myself that Milan is still a very big club :) ).

Sorry mate

it would make no sense for Milan to be included on the grounds that they have a good "reputation and history"....i'm sorry mate, but from a footballing perspective its much more likely Roma will be in there based on current form

they might have AC now cause Rivaldo just joined the team. It might be a little late to change that however.

really? Well, there's no AC Milan in that list. Sadly clubs like Lyon and Anderlecht were preferred... :(
We'll be having the last laugh when we bring home the Champions League trophy in May though :p
How did you come across this info, btw?

If this is true, how can they justify having three French teams in there? Monaco have been the only decent French team in recent history and they've fallen apart over the last few years. AC Milan should have been one of the first choices there and Celtic ( Who defeated the Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, and Portuguese champions last season ) and Rangers ( Who defeated PSG - God knows how they got in there ) should have at least been thought about.

What are you on, man? Celtic played FC Porto and yes, they did won the first game by 1-0, but Porto absolutely THRASHED them on the second game, by 3 goals to zero. And you know why it ended 3-0? Because we didn't have a decent striker to finish the huge amount of clear goal opportunities that we created.
And you know what, FC Porto wasn't even the Portuguese champion last year - Boavista FC was!!!!! ;)

I also wonder why teams like Anderlecht, RC Lens, Ajax
(great historic team, but what have they done in the past 5 years?), Olympique Lyon and Paris St. Germain are there and Porto isn't... It puzzles me, really. We did better last year on the CL than all these clubs, we're one of the top 5 teams with more appearances on the main UEFA club competition, what more can you ask?

Three French teams is kind of excessive -- I get the feeling that EA's licensing deals with the various European FA's (and, to a lesser extent, the star players they have special marketing deals with) had a lot to do with the choices.

Look at the Champions' League final 16 over the last few years -- typically around 9 or 10 come from EPL, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the Spanish premiership. The other 6-7 spots get filled with one or two teams from France, Portugal or Eastern Europe, and a team from Holland, Greece and maybe Scandinavia.

Given that, it's pretty hard to imagine that EA's choices were based on achieving "ultimate competition with 18 of the greatest European teams."

Sorry mate, I thought FC Porto were the champions but obviously not. I can see your point on why they aren't there but as I say surely these teams could have been given a thought.

Also, in the game against Juventus in Turin, they were denied a point ( at a point in the game where they were actually going all out to win ) which would have been a great result, given that Manchester United is the only team to beat Juventus in Turin in the Champions League, by a last-minute blatant dive by Nicola Amoroso.

My point about Celtic was that they were a dominant force in European football in the late '60s and early '70s, and are only now coming back into contention, and should be one of the teams to look out for in this seasons Champions' League.

I might also point out they defeated the English champions last year on their own turf in Ryan Giggs' testimonial, putting four goals past them in the process.

No problem. :) I wish you were right on FC Porto being the champ, though. :D

To be honest with you, I'd rather have Celtic and play in their great stadium than those French teams or Anderlecht.
However, being a great in the past isn't a valid argument, imho. Just imagine, if EA chose teams for what they've done in the 60's we would have to put up with... Benfica.:mambo: :D
