Fifa 98 RTWC too old?

I pulled out my old copy of FIFA98 today to kill some time. It's my favorite of all the FIFAs, but haven't played it in years, two P.C.s ago

It doesn't work on my 2-year-old computer, even though I'm sure my current video card, while not a gaming card (Matrox G550), is much better than whatever was installed on the store-bought IBM thing I had back in the day.

When I say the game doesn't work, I mean when I install I get a series of "Cannot Detect Hardware" errors, but then it installs and all the menu and pre-game screens work. It's the actual graphics for the gameplay that are messed up in psychedelic fashion, and if I togle the detail using the hotkeys it crashes.

I had this psychedelic color problem when I first tried playing FIFA2002 on this PC, but then the video card bug was fixed.

So, is FIFA 98 simply too old to work on a newer PC? Can't DirectX 9 or 10, or whatever is current, handle DirectX 5 graphics?

Disappointing.

think that the patch released by Galah over at http://geocities.com/burnt_branch could well solve your problems

i know it enables support for higher versions of Direct x

whether it's new enough for you i'm not sure, but it's worth a try

FIFA98 RTWC should work on new machines.

I can get Fifa98 RTWC to work on a

- Pentium 4 3.2GHz
- 1.5 GB of RAM
- 256 MB nVIDIA FX graphics card,

- Windows XP SP2
- DirectX 9.0c



- I had to install GALAHs (my) 3D Update,

- disable the swap file (or try minimising it to 100M

and it should run fine.


Note: Some systems though require you to enable compatability mode, so you might want to try this if it still desn't run.

- Right click on the Fifa98 icon in the start menu,
- go to compatability tab
- Enable compatbility mode and select the option to emulate Windows 98.

it is, and unfortunately the downloads for fifa99 have completely dried up aswell

well it's taken over 6 years, but looks asthough the life of fifa99 online has finally come to any end

I'm still gonna stay around, but not update, mainly as there's noting to uodate it with.
