FIFA2001: Why is Ronaldo Called No. 9

I think that Ronaldo haven't agreed that his name is in this game. You can just change "No. 9" to "Ronaldo" and it wont be illegal...

It was something to do with licencing... Ronaldo wouldn't allow his name to be used in FIFA 99 because he had his own (and rather crap) football game on the Game Boy at the time.

Really it wouldnt have been Ronaldo not allowing it, but he would have signed a contract with whoever made his game, and part of that contract would have been that his name cant be used in another football game (either for a certain period of time, or ever).

Copyright laws

Hey Min,
It's because of copyright laws non of the games can use his real name, like on Fifa 2001.

OK LETS PUT THIS TO REST

its Fifpro

FIFPRO is the official licensing right ... so if your not a member of fifpro then they cant use your name ... thus Ronaldo , Djorkaeff the dutch national team ect are not signed on

now ronaldo plays for Real madrid he has joined in with fifpro probably because of a new contract

Sucks

You would think if EA got the rights to be official game of Fifa, they would have the rights to use every players name.

Also, isn't it flattering to the players, knowing people out their are using their characters trying to emulate what they do on the field.

i would have thought so, but maybe their is just too much money in soccer these days.
