General Question About Gameplay Mods

hi
i've been out of the fifa pc scene for a while (been playing a few versions on xbox) and want to get back to pc for the modding advantage
i admit i'm getting lost in all the threads and mods and db's and matrixes and what not...
i'm just looking for a realistic gameplay mod and how to install use it

what is the minimal thing i need to install on a fresh fifa 14 install to improve gameplay?
or can someone give me a quick rundown of what types of mods do what ?
i see gameplayzer dat does something to different db's
i see database and ai mods/files
i read things about matrix-files

aka , i'm officially lost :)
