gfx glitches in fifa98 on xp

Hi guys, I used galahs patch, and everything worked fine.
but now, I see the crowd, stadium, and all the "surrounding" stuff in simple colors. blue, red, yellow, no textures.
I also get an error msg when i try to choose d3d in the fifa menu in the start menu, plz help me.
tnx.

try dropping Galah a line directly - I think that he may have came across this one in testing


but if this is no use, then the standard advise would be to make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card


if this makes no difference, then post the error message hich you get here, and I will see what I can find

I had this problem occur with Fifa99 but I'm not sure if it happened with fifa98?



My first advice would be to try setting your computers colour depth to 16bit

Galah, I've got a problem with fifa 98 and your patch, too. The sound (sound effects, musics, speech) becomes blurry after 10 seconds of playing. I've tried on two computers with two different sound cards, and the result is the same... Too bad, because I really enjoy this game with your great patch ! Do you know what I could do to solve that ?

Yeah it happens on a few PCs running Windows XP. It's a fault with how the game accesses the DirectX sound drivers. Some times trying different "Compatability Mode" settings and reducing "Graphics Acceleration" (try one notch at a time) in the Control Panel - Display page helps.

My solution is to change the dxdiag settings for DirectSound Acceleration. Just pull the bar all to the left and there will be no blurry or craped sounds ingame. But the cost is the sound and video can't be synchronized. :S

The tool can be found by typing "dxdiag" in Start -> Run in xp.

i am having an abort message initmem-insufficient memory to continue FILE\initmem.c line 246 while playing fifa 98

Initmem patch

I have created a patch to circumvent the initmem error mentioned above. The patch is based upon galahs version 1.7 and available at my page http://fifa98.ingohaschler.de. At the moment, the page is only in German (English to come soon), so if you encounter language problems, let me know...
Hope the patch helps many people :-)

Some of these 'insufficient memory' errors can be sorted out by reducing your computers virtual memory (yes it does sound back to front lol)

Reduce it to 50MB (recommended)
if that doesn't work disable virtual memory all together
