Glitch with recognized but non-existant controller

A friend of mine is having trouble with playing Fifa 06...the game acts on menu screens (and, as he told me, on matches when it's possible to get into one) like up/left directions were stuck, making the whole thing almost unplayable. Furthermore, on that "Choose Side" screen there is a Logitech Dual Action icon which auto-selects left side - even though he only plays with a keyboard. I checked some hardware configs on his micro but there is no obvious conflicting USB device which could be causing the problem - I would not discard that possibility however. Other EA games (the most recent one being UEFA Champions League 04-05) are perfectly playable at the same conditions. Any suggestions of yours for cause/solution for this oddity would be greatly appreciated.

PS.: One point I just thought, would some exploration into Fifa controller config data (that files where people configure manually controller's buttons) be useful?
