Unfortunetly, a_shearer is in a deep depression at the moment.

It seems that a_shearer's portfolio is crashing faster than a Valujet airliner and he will soon be left penniless and poor.

Please give generously to the HELP A SHEARER FOUNDATION now.

Garbage!

This all started under Clinton! Don't you recall? How quickly the liberals forget.

Dubbya inherited Clintons mismanagement of Reaganomics.

Besides, Bush hasn't even enacted an ecomomic policy. You could target Greenspan or Clinton. Not Bush.

Clinton did such a great job with the economy. I'm no Clinton fan but you can't blame these problems on Clinton and you can't on Bush either.

I was just kidding with you conservatives.

Japan has really hit hard times and the same thing could happen to America. What would people remember Bush for then? Just like Hoover...

Hopefully you know your history, or I'm wasting my time, but in 1828(?) there was a depression. A horrible time, all started because Andrew Carlos*son killed the economy, the depression started in van Buren's term though, so who got blamed? Van Buren of course. I'm seeing some paralells here.

"Clinton did a great job with the economy"

That is why we are in a major recession which in stocks at least paralells the Great Depression. Thanks Bill! ;)

and if you were communists??

I don't see how you can blame clinton, the economy was great in the US when he was "in charge" and as soon as he left the whole thing fell apart. Is that his fault?

Well yes...

An economy doesn't deteriorate overnight! It takes time to destroy it guys! That is why Clinton's administration, much like Coolige's and Carlos*son's will be remembered for leaving us a debt. No one blames van Buren for the Depression of 1828(?), they blame Carlos*son for killing the economy.

When will you damn liberals realize that Regan helped Clinton, he walked into a good thing. Clinton screwed Bush, he walks right into a bad thing.

There is no way Bush can be blamed for this recession, and which president are we left with then to point fingers at?

The reason why the economy is falling faster than Nortel's stock, is becuase the capitalist system works like this. When things get really good in the economy, investors start to feel invincible and play God. But at the slightest hint that profits are falling or that the economy is going to slow down, investors dissappear more quickly than bears in a forest. It's not Clinton's fault or Bush's fault. It's uncertainty in the market and Alan Greenspan's inability to run the Federal Reserve Bank effectively. Had he cut the interest rates two months b4 he did, the economy would be in better shape. Not exploding last last year, but at least not imploding like everyone thinks it will. There was a cartoon in the Toronto Star on Thursday. It had a newspaper from 1929 saying "Wall Street lays and Egg," next to it was a drawing of Greenspan sitting on egg.

This is true.

The overvaluing of these tech stocks haws crushed NASDAQ. The reason that tech stocks are eating it, is kind of what you said.

For years people have been investing in companies that have the dot-com in their name. So far only a few have made any money at all. Still, investors shell out millions of dollars to buy shares in companies, on the premise that someday a profit will turn, and they'll get rich. Well, like in 1929, the stocks were overvalued for a very long time. How some of these no profit companies got up to $100 per share is beyond me. Now however, people actually realize that these stocks can't make money for whatever reason. And like Woody said, we have a panic. But don't blame Greenspan for the stock market and the economy guys.

Did I just say that???

I don't know the US economy that well, but I'd like to post my opinion... Don't blame Clinton or Bush for that... Capitalism itself has periodic crisis, as it's based on higher profits as time passes... I'm not comunist, or anything like that...
that's my opinion...
