The solution...

I actually think it is too bad that the US doesn't GET to play the really tough teams in qualifying. It is one of the reasons our World Cup team is such a long shot. Whenever they step into a WC type game they are freaked out from lack of experience.

Mexico is really in the same boat.

Want to solve that? Do what is the obvious thing...combine Confederations.

Right now, the South Americans paly the best football, but have the least amount of say at FIFA, because with the (I think very good, no matter what Brian Glanville thinks) one nation/one vote rule, South America is only 10 votes.

Now if you were to do the following:

Combine CONCACAF (35 votes) with CONMEBOL (10 votes) = 45 votes

Combine AFC with the OFC (59 votes I believe)

Now those two NEW confederations provide some checks and balances in FIFA against UEFA (51 votes) and Africa (52 votes).

The benefit for the US is that now the Copa America can really cover America, and the World Cup qualifying road would take the US to Rio and Buenos Aries...very good competition indeed for the Americans, and everyone else...

One Confederation of the Americas, one Asia-Oceania Confederation...the best way to go, for everyone.

Except, of course, those who would have to abdicate or share power, which is why, barring a World War or something, it will never happen...

But its nice to dream; imagine the US or Mexico hosting World Cup qualifying against Brazil in the Rose Bowl or Azteca...100,000 people...it would be rockin! Trust me, Mexico would combine Confederations in a Mexico city minute!!!!:rockman:
