Beckham scored on 90 minutes.

Crap performance for first 80 mins, they were never under pressure but nothing amazing.

New formation...?

I have not seen the match, or even highlights of it, but have read that Ferguson chose to go with a new 4-4-1-1 formation, with van Nistelrooy up front as the lone striker, and Veron behind him. Apparently, it worked relatively well at containing the French side - as demonstrated by the fact that at least they kept a clean sheet.
Despite my numerous and grave reservations about this new-found penchant of Fergie's for playing van NIstelrooy up front by himself (or partnered by Scholes), the idea of Man Utd putting more emphasis on absorbing any attacking moves by the opposition and just waiting patiently for the right moment to slot thru a ball to Nistelrooy does have its merits i guess...(?)

What does everyone else think? I'm not that fond of the idea of moving Scholes up front, in any capacity, and would much prefer the original 4-3-3 change that Ferguson was talking about earlier this year, with Veron behind two strikers up front (possibly Yorke-van Nistelrooy) Scholes/Keane in the centre of midfield.

Whatever happens, in my opinion, move Scholes back MF, and give Ruud some help up front!!! He can't do it all on his own...

The combination of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes up front has worked very effective, although it is not Scholes' favourite postion I think that Fergie should put him there and leave Veron in midfield with Keane.

It was a rubbish performance, look on the positive side, it can't get any worse:o

4-4-1-1

The beauty of the 4411 is that Ruud is not really alone. The wingers close in quickly to help out so it turns into a 433 or a 424 (if the guy behind Ruud pushes up) on attack. Plus Ruud is the kind of attacker that plays on the shoulder of the last man, Man U haven't figured that if you slip a thru ball he'll get on to it. Or i guess defences know this so they just stay back.

I think united should just stick to the 4-4-2 formation with which they have been very succesful in the past.
I don't think that united have found the perfect formation yet for this season.....there's still a long way to go in the season and I believe that as the season goes on united will eventually get stronger.

Help?

Atleast we won! I think so too, that Ruud is a great forward, but he can't play well, without support. Fergie should stick up with 4-4-2

Van Nistelrooy is a great player and a threat to anyone
so he should be the main man up front for ManUre ... and his team mate could be any one really

Scholes & Ruud

Hey guys,
Don't get me wrong - i'm not suggesting that Man U buy another striker like Gomez, quite the opposite. My beef is not with Scholesy as a player at all (i think he's is one of the most talented midfielders in Europe), it's just that i don't really understand Fergie's decision to choose him up front over Yorke, Solskjaer or Cole.
Giggs, a consistent streak of brilliance on the left, was anonymous when he played up front against Liverpool last season ( 'cos injury had sidelined half the team!). This was not really a reflection on Giggs (no-one would dare), but he's not a striker. Simple as that. Neither is Scholes. I can live with the 4-4-1-1 formation - who knows, it might end up working really well - but i think Scholes is more valuable working in MF to put those beautiful balls through to Ruud & co the way that only Scholes can...

Van Nistelrooy and Nuno Gomes up front? Could happen, he is leaving on a free transfer probably.

give them some time, now look at saturday's results they totally outclass ipswich... once they get used to the new system they will really go for it...

True, I think they should stick to the 4-4-2 it helped them win so much titles. Now I think they could use a new CB and maybe add a Nuno Gomes in their to force the other forwards to play harder. Ruud lacks an efficient striking partner.

They don't need Nuno Gomes. They have 3 other strikers in Cole ,Yorke and Solsjaker who can all do the job when given the chance.Scholes is playing **** up the front and Ferguson should just go back to 4-4-2,with one of the other strikers playing next to Van Nistelrooy.

Scholes.....***** ?! I don't think so, he has played excellent up front in supporting RVN.It's not his prefered position but he's doing a great job.

Scholes is one of the best players in da world .. no doubt
SO I think he picks himself for England and ManU

Im not saying scholes is ****, i know he's good. I'm saying he's playing **** up front with Ruud.Their partnership isn't working, they've only got about 3 goals between them and i don't think that is what Fergie wanted when he decided to put them together.
