New formation...?
I have not seen the match, or even highlights of it, but have read that Ferguson chose to go with a new 4-4-1-1 formation, with van Nistelrooy up front as the lone striker, and Veron behind him. Apparently, it worked relatively well at containing the French side - as demonstrated by the fact that at least they kept a clean sheet.
Despite my numerous and grave reservations about this new-found penchant of Fergie's for playing van NIstelrooy up front by himself (or partnered by Scholes), the idea of Man Utd putting more emphasis on absorbing any attacking moves by the opposition and just waiting patiently for the right moment to slot thru a ball to Nistelrooy does have its merits i guess...(?)
What does everyone else think? I'm not that fond of the idea of moving Scholes up front, in any capacity, and would much prefer the original 4-3-3 change that Ferguson was talking about earlier this year, with Veron behind two strikers up front (possibly Yorke-van Nistelrooy) Scholes/Keane in the centre of midfield.
Whatever happens, in my opinion, move Scholes back MF, and give Ruud some help up front!!! He can't do it all on his own...
