I've always been an attack-minded player. I played striker in high school and was a playmaker when playing with friends. But as I got older I realized that I just don't have the quick feet to be going at defenders all the time. I was mediocre at best. So recently I started playing defense - both in college and with friends - and I've been getting better at it with every game. The last game I played, which was today, I absolutely dominated. I'm pretty strong and have decent speed, plus I read the game very well and I distribute the ball from the back with pretty good accuracy. The point is, I'm a much better player as a defender than I ever could have been as an attacker. And even though you generally think of defense as being less fun than offense, I have a lot of fun because I'm playing well.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar transformation over the years.

i definitely know what your talking about

i had a teammate who was an exceptional player while going forward, he had great dribbling skill, lacked some pace but had a killer shot. he went from forward to wing and was as an experiment used as a stopper behind the center midfielders. then another experiment tried him at sweeper and he became probably the most dominant sweeper i have seen

i have a similar story as i first started out as an attacker with playmaking ability, but was moved to defence because i had the ability to tackle a read the game from teh back. i still prefer to play in the midfield but i have found a nice as a left wing back

I used to play as RM, then I was moved to the centre and played there for a bit, i was tried out as a DM and did a decent job but i dont have the pace to be the lone DM in a diamond midfield like i was, so i was moved to centre back and did decent there but now ifound my best position was RB...i have strong tackles and I like to make runs up the wing, my crossing and passing is my best attribute but im a solid defender......then i got lazy and stopped playing, lol.
