The poms outplayed us in the forwards, completely. The AB's looked like a team that had been together for 2 weeks. There will be questions asked about Spencers goalkicking, if he had landed them all we would have won. But then again. look at some of the moves he pulled off. Umaga chose the wrong moment to have a bad game, and Ali Williams made some raw decisions.

But how about that try! (H) :rockman: Howlett and Spencer linking again. And if only Marshall had gone in the other direction.

Oh well, England played well, their defence was tough to break, and the AB's didn't take their chance when England were down to 13. That just goes to show the experience of the English, but I think their backs still have some questions to answer. They never really threatened the AB's line, and Wilkinson is a freak when it comes to kicking. Whereas the AB's looked dangerous everytime they got near the line. If the silly errors can be ironed out, and the back of the scrum taken care of, then there is a promising future for the AB team.

What a suprise...England dont score a try, but win the match...Funny, they have the hide to call Italian soccer boring ;)

When Australia lost to them by 1 point (in England, and with an understrength team) we scored more tries then them too...

NZ struggled to do much with the ball in the hands, and just couldnt break the English defensive line (more then once :p)...After this game tho, and considering that its the end of the season for England, and beginning for NZ, Id say that the Southern Hemisphere nations are in a better position for the World Cup then most would have you believe.

Spencer did break the defensive line a few times, but either the support was not there, or the wrong option was taken (I am thinking of Marshall here). There was also the double-movement non-try. Also, NZ would have won if Spencer had not missed so many kicks, but in a way it is good that the AB's lost. It means that England will go to the WC with confidence, whilst if the ABs had won, they might not have taken as much notice of the silly mistakes they were making.

What struck me about the English team (apart from their size) was the age of the first-team squad. This is their best chance of winning the WC, and many players won't be around next time. Whereas the AB's are mostly young players with years ahead of them. So it bodes well.

Spencer missed four kicks i think.
Marshall was one-on-one and really made some bollox decisions
But on their day New Zealand would kick Englands ass..
If Mehrtens was playing, or even Daniel Carter, AB's would have won...

the 'canes in the team didn't really live to expectations... umaga was having one of those 'off' days in this game...

Mehrts would have got the kicks...probably...but he wouldn't have had the vision for the move that led to the try, nor would he have made the breaks that Spencer made. Imo Spencer is the most dangerous weapon the AB's have, especially in conjunction with Howlett. If only there was someone capable of taking the kicking duties...Boosted is right tho, it was a shame Umaga had a bad game.

But hey, there is plenty of gametime before the WC for this team to get their act together. I mean, they had only been together for a couple of weeks.

Considering it was the all Blacks first game of the year, they don't have too much to worry about.
England have just come off the 6 nations and have combined as a unit , yet they still only just won mainly because Wilkinson is the one of the best kickers the game has ever seen.

Englands defence in the middle is very strong and they just belted Umaga anfd Nonu every time they touched the ball.

Big test for the Wallabies this weekend after 2 easy wins.

Yeah, I don't think there is too much to worry about. I still think SPencer is a better proposition than Mehrts, especially against the Aussies. Against a team like England, or possibly even South Africa, Mehrts might be better, but you just know Spencer is gonna set something up for a try. It worked for the Blues and Auckland last season as Spencer and Devine (or Gibson) had time to 'click'. You could see on Saturday, after Devine came on, that Spencer had that extra half-second to think, which was missing when Marshall was on. Thats why I think Devine should be given the nod ahead of Kelleher against Wales.

PS pretty obvious I am a Blues supporter, but nevermind.

I must agree i think against a team like England the better kicker wouldbe a better option. But to Spencers defence he was easily the All Blacks most dangerous player and if it wasn't so windy he probably would have made most of those kicks. But maybe when playing in Wellington that needs to be taken into consideration.

Wilkinson is gonna land goals wherever he plays.

The wind should.nt be an issue this weekend for the Wallabies becaause I think the match is going to be played with the roof shut at Colonial. The biggest problem for the Wallabies is who is going to play fly half because Flatley has been dropped for missing a training session and Larkham and Giteau are both out injured.
