First of all check the photos in the bottom...thats the result u'll get. U'll play with 2 black bars like when ure watching a movie and the players wont be looking like Peter Crouch 
This tutorial is for 1680x1050 monitors but works the same way for all 16:10 screens as long as _Dert_ (evo-web) or anyone else provides the settings.exe for the resolution of ure monitor (1440x810 for 1440x900 monitors and 1280x720 for 1280x800 monitors) and its the best way to play PES2008 with 16:10 monitors until lodmixer comes out (hope it does!)
U're monitor must be connected to the pc with a DVI cable! More info here
For Windows Vista (Nvidia cards):
You have to add the custom resolution 1680x945 to u're nvidia control panel in order for settings.exe to let u choose 1680x945 in fullscreen.This can only be done by modifying both u're monitor driver .inf and nvidia driver .inf.
Heres how to mod ure drivers: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=37318 also check this document for more detailed info on modifying nvidia driver .inf
After u successfully added the custom resolutions u have to go to "nvidia control panel"->"display"->"change flat panel scaling" and set it to "use Nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio" (this might be already in use by default)
Now u just use settings.exe with 1680x945 made by _Dert_ http://rapidshare.com/files/65426006/1680x945.rar and ure all set to play in fullscreen in a 1680x1050 native resolution screen with no distortions!
If u have a Sumsung 225BW and a nvidia card ure in luck! Just install my drivers (Forceware 169.01 Vista 32bit + Samsung 225BW driver, both with modded .inf):

For Windows XP (Nvidia cards - probably doesnt work for most of u!):
1-First u gotta go to nvidia control panel->display->change flat panel scaling and see if u can check the option "use Nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio"...if u cant u wont be able to run pes2008 like this. I couldnt check this in XP, thats why it only works in Vista for me. *EDIT: U can try nvidia drivers from before de 100.xx series. It works in my laptop with driver version 84.64. U can find older nvidia drivers here
