Juan Sebastian Veron has admitted he hopes Lazio can reach an agreement with Manchester United to take him back to Rome in the summer.
The Argentinian started his Premiership career in spectacular fashion at the beginning of the season, but has since displayed some indifferent form, despite the side’s climb to the top of the table.
Lazio's passionate tifosi have been pushing for the South American star to come back and wear the biancoceleste shirt again, and president Sergio Cragnotti has never hidden his desire to tie up a deal.
The Old Trafford club have denied that Veron has a clause in his contract allowing him to return to the Italian club, and the club would want a return on the £28.1 million they paid last year.
"I hope that Cragnotti finds an agreement with Manchester United," the 26-year-old told the Italian press.
"I am ready to return.
"It made me feel bad seeing Lazio on television against Milan, seeing them suffering.
"I am proud that I have not been forgotten by the tifosi."
The Lazio supporters also called for Paolo Di Canio, ironically a top target for Sir Alex Ferguson, to be signed, but Cragnotti dismissed the prospect of launching a swoop for the West Ham striker.
