Not necessarily. Some of my first favourite players were defenders, like Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini and Tony Adams. I really enjoyed watching the great AC Milan back-four of Tassotti–Costacurta–Baresi–Maldini. Another defence that impressed me was of course Arsenal's Dixon–Bould–Adams–Winterburn.

gotta be Milan....for a NT italy....maybe if Roma didnt have Zebina or Panucci playing on the right Roma would have the best.....who said man utd have the best d.....maybe in the EPL but not europe....they were made to look like a 1st division team defense in the CL vs madrid...not to say they suck but not the best

Much too old, I would say. Quedrue is Boro's best defender IMO.

I'd say the same if he could defend, wait for the emergeance of our younger defenders, the likes of David Murphy, Stuart Parnaby and Andrew Davies, we've got future England potential among our ranks I guarantee you

They have a lot of compitition from Chelsea's young England International Hopefuls, ie Bridge, Terry, Johnson and Huth.

The difference is all our young English talent have been brought up through the highly-acclaimed MFC Youth system, unlike half of Chelski's

Yeah but most of Chelsea's have had/will have regular first team experience already at such a youn age.

Juve's defense is better than Milans.

Tudor, Montero, Thuram, Iuliano, Zambrotta, Ferrara, Pesotto, Birindelli and now Leggrotaglie.

Juve leaked lesser goals that Milan last season and when they played each other in the SerieA, each of the 2 encounters ended 2-1 for the home side. In the CL, they were both unable to break the opposing defenses down and it had to come down to a shootout.

your right....i think the the starting 4 of milan is better than Juve's though...but overall they have a better defense in depth

Stuart Parnaby has at 22, but David Murphy and Andrew Davies are only 18 or 19 years old, so they've still got time ahead of them, Murphy would have had the first 5 games of next season guaranteed due to Queudrue's suspension, but he managed to break his foot a fortnight ago in training

I'll say Roma and Milan are equal in defense.

Roma has Candela who is a bit better than Milan's Kaladze, Chivu is on the same level as Nesta, Samuel is same level with Maldini but younger which is always good, Cafu maybe better than Panucci but Roma also have Dellas and the new brazilian player Mancini, some say he is better than Cafu.

AS Roma Defense: Panucci, Chivu, Zebina, Sartor, Cufre, Samuel, Mancini, Dellas, Candela

AC Milan Defense: Cafu, Costacurta, Kaladze, Laursen, Maldini, Nesta, Pancaro, Roque Junior, Simic

9 vs 9... who is better?

well Zebina is trash, Dallas hasnt proven himself at all and Cafre doesnt play enough....i have to give it to milan reluctantly...but Chivu and Samuel are just as good as Nesta and Maldini i think....Candela is very good too, very complete player...i hope Mancini turns out to be the next Cafu

Like I said, they're still young, and as soon as Southgate retires and Queudrue gets the boot, the door's wide open for the two of 'em, believe me, I've seen 'em in action and I know we've got some future England potentials here, that's why the Boro Youth Team were runners up in the FA Youth Cup last term

isn't zambrotta back to midfield now?

i think milan's got the best defense with juve a close second. juve leaked less league goals coz they were playing better as a whole in the league last season, whereas milan weren't playing at 100% after december (whether it be because of injuries, tactics, players, concentration on the cl, whatever.....), so naturally milan leaked more goals.........
