WCQ: Portugal vs Russia [P+R]

In all seriousness now, Im not (nor have I ever been) a Scolari fan. I kept my mouth shut during the EURO for the sake of national unity (it was nice to see Portuguese celebrating together) but this man clearly is an idiot. I don't know how many more blunders Ritardo has to allow before that gaucho sees that he sucks! In fact, Ritardo, has possibly surpassed Baia in frangos now!

If Ritardo plays on Wednesday, I'll be very very surprised. Surely the Gaucho is not that stupid.

IMO he will keep Ricardo to give him confidence, and to his moral don't go down... Even knowing that he shouldn't be in the start eleven, and neither in the call-up...

UNTIL

We lose to another team like Greece in a very important game, when he will be near of being sacked, and then he will not have other alternative besides puting a REAL goalkeeper like Moreira/Baía/Quim.


Like he did in Euro with Couto/Carvalho, Rui Jorge/Nuno Valente, Paulo Ferreira/Miguel and Rui Costa/Deco.

Scolari should defiently put in Quim for the Portugal vs Russia if not maybe Moreira

It'll be a hard time for Portugal after drawing with Liechtenstein. Russia could steal a point. Scholari should realize what he's doing now...3 points is a-must-have in this match for Portugal.

Another draw would be putting Scholari's job in jeopardy.

Portugal will want to earn back some recognition after being humiliated by Liechenstein. Expect them to be fierce out there, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of bookings too. I'm sure the Portuguese players are all frustrated and will want to relieve themselves of some pressure.

Also, if Portugal doesn't win they are seriously at risk of not qualifying, I know still a lot of matches to go but this is the type of match Portugal really has to get 3 pts in (so was Liechenstein).

If you would have seen the match, you'd understand how good the rebound was. The performance, effort etc...against France was dismal. Against Eire, they played out of their boots and if it wasn't for a few posts here and there the result would have read 1-4 in favor of Portugal! Also, that result kept our first place position within the group!

I think it's about time Scolari call the players that are in better shape in the moment and not always the big names like Pauleta and Ricardo that are clearly out of form. for example Pedro Mendes, Moreira, Quaresma and Rocha deserved a call imo. Pedro Mendes is better than Tiago atm. Quaresma is better than Boa Morte atm. Rocha is better than Caneira atm. Moreira is WAY better than Ricardo at the moment and Scolari calls his sub!... it looks like the NT has marked spots...

Hey, I actually agree with you for the first time ever. It must be that obvious our team needs a serious change in certain spots. Same feeling we had when we lost the opner to Greece, eh?

My prediction for this match is a 1-1 draw. I think Ricardo will deliver his usual blunder but it won't result in a goal.

good post, i agree one hundred percent.

Pedro Mendes can be like the next Maniche success story for the seleccao. This guy gives 110% every game and unlike Tiago is a starter for his team. I also believe Moreira should be the starter, he is the best portuguese goalie, Rocha is better than Caneira, but Caneira is versatile, but i'd take Rocha anyday. Tonel is also a considerable mention, he's played great for Maritimo. Quaresma is beginning to play better and is a better player than Boa Morte.

I hope Quaresma finally matures this year. We need him to realize his full potential.

I hope our defenders do not commit the same mistakes of the last game and i REALLY hope Ricardo never plays more in our NT, even Quim can do better than him!

Nice goal by Quaresma in the U-21 game. We are 1-0 up with 65 mins. Not the best performance so far but effective never the less.
