New kits are awesome, be jealous.

great kits....
But we need to buy some good players to fill the void left by ballack and cole.
We really need a player with good dribbling skills because i think that is what we are missing in this team...someone who can open up defenses in a tight game

So far, Belletti, Ballack, Joe Cole and Deco(reportedly on his way out) gone.

In comes Benayoun.

We're really stretching our squad if we intend to compete on all fronts without proper replacements for the aforementioned players.

Good news is, Essien and Mikel are raring to go for the new season.

Managed to watch a bit of the first half and the 2nd half. Players still finding their feet understandably, it was great to see Essien back in action, Mikel as well.

Sturridge really looked lively, as was Matic.

Highlight of the match was the Palace player dribbling intensely inside our penalty box and ending up kicking fresh air. :D

It was a decent game.Mikel and Essien made good comebacks.
McEachran,Bertrand,Matic,Sturridge and Sinclair were impressive among the youngsters.
Di Santo had a really poor outing.

I dunno how many people saw the game, and I only saw the second half, but Essien's goal was a finish to a lovely passing move. With a lot of players missing after the World Cup and younger/ reserve players that are finding their feet, I feel that we did rather well. Scott Sinclair came and almost scored within about 5 mins, and continued to play very well after that, winning a free kick (I mention this because It was actually a penalty, the foul was clearly inside the box yet for some reason the ref gave only a free kick:S)

I expect we'll see more of our first squad against Ajax, then we can probably start looking for next season, however, following today, the future does look bright!!! (Y)(Y)(Y)

Yeah, good to see Essien have a good game, after such a long lay off it's great to see him back on the pitch again. He'll make a difference for us next season. He's had a good rest too so he will be as fresh as a daisy.

Jon Obi is back too, and I thought he also had a very good game against Palace. His passing was quicker and very accurate, and he seemed very focused. He's also been out for a while so he's well rested too, and fully fit.

Joe Cole is now a Liverpool player. Some Chelsea fan he turned out to be huh?

I have very mixed feelings over this saga involving Joe. I agree with the club when they say that Joe has given us very little over the last 18 months, to warrant his demanded 50% wage rise, (That's £120,000 a week), and that he needs to show the club first that he can still deliver the goods when he is asked to.

Sure, Joe has been out for a long time with a bad injury, and since his return to the squad (and for England), he looks to me like he might never be the Joe Cole that we once knew and loved a couple of years ago.

Sure, he's always gonna score a cheeky and wonderful goal here and there, (like the back heeled goal against Manchester United last season (Y) ), or provide a nice pass now and again, but from what I've seen of him since his return from injury, he looks slower and hardly anything that he has tried to do on the pitch has come off.

Joe should have taken the £100,000 a week that Chelsea offered him. Then get his head down, train hard and prove to us all that he isn't finished. Then he could maybe ask for a raise.

Lets face it, Joe is not such a great player now than when he signed his last contract with us. His fitness and his form have deteriorated big time since then. Why would any employer want to give a 50% pay rise to an employee who has not earned it?

Maybe that old chestnut about getting more playing time at another club is Joe's excuse for leaving. To a certain extent that's true, but the only reason he didn't get much pitch time last season was because he was either injured, or often played badly when he did come on.
He also couldn't accept that Carlo wanted to bring him back slowly after such an injury, and Joe's impatience with that decision contributed to his poor form overall.

Shame to see him leave, but I expected him to do it with a little more class to be honest. I think he's probably wondering why nobody thought he was worth the money he was demanding. Wondering why Joe thought he was worth such huge wages and a massive signing on fee, when he has spent the most part of the last two seasons injured.

So everyone turned their backs on him and said "No thanks Joe". Everyone except Liverpool that is. So he went there. The only club who wanted him. Liverpool. Of all the clubs he went to Liverpool.

Joe Cole should be embarrassed by that. Not just because it's Liverpool, but the fact that nobody else came in to sign him. Not at that silly price anyhow. At least I hope it brings him down to Earth a little, because it's now obvious to me that Joe Cole, somewhere along the line, lost the plot. Big shame.

Good Luck Joe and thanks mate.

Speaking of Cole, I don't understand why Real's players are always on a media wankfest whenever a class player is linked with them.

Carvalho has been quoted as keen to join Madrid, they're the "best club in the world stuff" and would "swim" to Madrid if he was offered a deal. Well, he's 32 and isn't in the best of conditions if we were to base on last season with his injuries. Ivanovic can shift roles between RB and CB when we get Bosingwa back. Bruma needs more game time, he was poor against Ajax. Understandable tho.

Giovanni Mauri has signed for us as fitness coach. He had worked with Carlo for 10 years at Milan and Parma.

Bruma has been called up to the main Dutch side, although it should be noted that none of the WC players were called-up so it is highly unlikely that he will get a spot on the team. Yet.

Our pre-season results haven't been good so far, probably down to players just returning from the World Cup, etc.

Nevertheless, most of our defeats were due to goalkeeping errors, this time around, it was Hilario who made an awful mistake.

Nice to see the WC lads back tho.

It looks like Ramires will sign for us. Don't know enough to say anything about that. Benayoun will play with the No. 10 jersery, btw.

I was VERY impressed with Ramires at the Confederations Cup, but to be honest I didn't really notice him much at the World Cup.

Typical tireless box-to-box. Don't expect any Lampard scorchers or Gerrard forty-yard passes, but you can rely on him to clean things up, transport the ball and never, never get lazy.

I hope our preseason-season relationship is not like last year's, and that we actually play well. This has been a ****ty preseason. I'm basing that purely on results because I haven't been able to watch the matches.

EDIT: The 22m deal for Ramires has been confirmed pending a medical by Benfica. Nothing on Chelsea's site yet, so it's not totally official. Also, what is the deal with Deco? Everywhere but on the site it says he's gone.

So, Benayoun for Cole, Ramires for Ballack. And I think it'll be youngsters who replace Belletti and possibly Deco. I'd be fine with this squad assuming everyone stayed fit. But they won't. Last season Iva and Malou stepped it up big time. This season, barring the youngsters, although it'd be awesome for one of them to do so, I'm hoping for Alex, Kalou, Mikel and Turnbull to step it up. I think the first 3 are great, but they're not worldclass, and that's what we need. Hilario always does the same thing, he performs well when I most expect him to crash, and then ****s it (e.g Liverpool and City last season). So, we need someone to keep Cech performing properly, and if Turnbull can't hack it, then I'm all for getting someone else to do so. I hope Delac is ******* amazing so he can understudy Cech soon.

We could do with a striker because Drogs and Anelka are getting on with it, but really, we just generally need to continue rejuvenating. Ramires is a step in the right direction, Yossi less so.

Fingers crossed for an awesome season for the youngsters. And freakin' hell, someone get Hutchinson bionic legs.

I always thought Benayoun was brought on a 3 year deal to allow Kakuta the time to blend in with the squad. Watched a bit of highlights from the U19 Euros and Kakuta was brilliant for the French.

The only problem with him is that he's out of contract in a year(?), so we better tie him up to a new deal and convince him that he can make it big with us. I'd seriously hate for another "Stoch" situation to happen.

Other than that, I pretty much agree with what you said there Az. Ramires is a replacement for Ballack, Benayoun a short term replacement for Cole(Kakuta obviously long term), Hutchinson should be fighting for the 3rd RB spot, left by Belletti.

I'm not too worried about keepers, I'm sure Carlo will iron out the goalkeeping gaffes before the season commences.

With Deco out, hopefully McEachran can step up when needed. I wouldn't bank on having Essien and Mikel fit for even 3/4 of the coming season.
