Juventus' Serie B clash with Cesena on Friday night has been postponed after a serious accident in which two young Juve players died.

The two 17-year-old players, Riccardo Neri and Alessio Ferramosca, drowned as they attempted to retrieve some footballs that had fallen into a small artificial lake within the club's training centre in Turin.

Fire brigade divers retrieved the two bodies from the icy cold water.

The game was cancelled immediately as a Juventus spokesperson broke the tragic news.

"Tonight's game will not be contested, and the public is invited to hold on to their tickets," he said.

"A serious incident has hit our club. The sporting director, Alessio Secco, the management and the players all decided not to play the game, which will now be rescheduled for 2007."

R.I.P :(

It's Riccardo Neri's birthday today :( He would've turned 17. It's such a sad story, also with Christmas coming around... Their families must be devestated.

RIP

Any deaths so close to christmas are always poignantly more tragic. The pair of 'em died? That water must have been very, very, very cold. :(

but honestly how does anybody older than 13 drown in a lake

I have once swimmed in an open-air swimming pool in October 29th 2005, it was something like 12 Degrees Celcius in water and I can easily say it was fcuking shocking.. as soon as I dived my muscles contracted so hard that I thought I wont be able to swim up to breathe.. you just cant stay idle evenj in that water, you should swim and get the hell out of that water to prevent muscle paralysis.. it was really some weird experience

so we're in december and the water in that lake should be colder than the pool I dived into.. it doesnt surprise me

It was cold, they were probably wearing sweats which would have weighed them down. :(

RIP.
