Italy is the only nation in Europe this season to have all its representatives still alive ... but with most of them in this second rate competition, it's not exactly something to be too happy about ... that said, there is a new prize on offer -- one that finally makes this competition meaningful again ... surely the chance of an automatic Champions League spot is finally reason enough for Serie A sides to once more take this thing seriously?

No Israeli teams? Huh, I thought some.spots go straight to the group stage. And did Wolfsburg lose in quals? I.know Mainz did.

Torino lucked the f*ck out with a far easier draw than a Pot 3 placement might have meant ... Inter don't have the easiest group, but they seem ready for it ... Napoli and Fiorentina should be comfortable ...

Group H is certainly the Group of Death; pulling for Mártinez and Rio Antonio Mavuba in that one ... I wonder if Zurich and Partizan can pull off a shock in their groups ... lastly, it looks like the Portuguese boys don't have the easiest of routes out ...

Yeah but that would be the case whatever group Rio Ave and Estoril ended up with, it was always going to be tough. Rio Ave to pull a late minute upset against Steaua (H)

Helsinki got a pretty good group all things considered. Brugge aren't exactly a superpower, Copenhagen got straight up punked in the CL playoffs, and they could get something from Torino...maybe.

3 wins and a draw for Serie A to start off ... Inter winning away in their hardest game *and* St. Étienne failing to do so in goddam Azerbaijan sums up the level of that group ... Torino drawing away to Brugge is somehow also a decent result, considering Brugge are a pot 2 team; also "top seed" Copenhagen only beating pot 4 team Helsinki by 2 goals at home means the chances of progression are good, so long as Quags and Amauri can score ...

also Everton winning by that margin is a bit of a surpise, given that Wolfsburg were supposed to be good (?) ... anyway, I'm happy for Mártinez ... come on Nigel! :-D

I'm inclined to think Wolfsburg's result is a freak occurrence especially with the own goal and pen. Their lack of a goalscorer means they will lose matches they should be winning because of lack of conversion, especially since their FBs are very attacking (although they had one of the best defenses last season).

only got Sevilla-Gladbach from my ideal draw ... but at least Wolfsburg don't have too easy a draw ...

Ajax, Inter, Roma, and even Napoli should be fine ... not convinced about Fiorentina, and especially Torino ...
