First of all, I'm not against hip-hop at all. I actually enjoy a few stuff. I'll fill in for him though. You see, there is no talent behind rap. It's just some overweight guy up there, rapping to studio produced music. For me, music is about way more than that. Seriously man, if I have a beat, I can freestyle like a mother****er, especially when i'm high. It's not that hard.
I do respect "bands" like the Roots for trying out new stuff and using instruments. That's what hip-hop should be about, not some white-black guy making millions just for freestyling to music made by his producer.

But 50 Cent still sells...because, well, he sells. It sells because he's a former drugdealer who got shot 9 times, and who's produced by someone who has sold 20 million copies in 4 years. :crazyboy:

Its a discussion - a discussion involves OPINIONs the moment you stop allowing people to share and voice there opinion is the moment where you should leave!

Many people have problems with rap liek as stated above

there are great african american artists like Michael Franti & Spearhead - but do they get airplay? no! you know why? because record labels - radio stations - rich boys have the belief that minorities in America (and the world) are criminals whether they be theaves murderers or gangtas.

Tell me one rapper that doesnt promote criminal activity? does that send a proper message if no rappers promote normal activity and not violence?

It sends this message if you live in downtown LA or in any ghetto's its ok to do drugs steal or even kill someone (hey say it was self defence) and then once your out you can make millions singing songs about your life - sing about this and that imbelish storys or exaggerate this and that etc etc.

I believe all those whom listern to rap music wheter its by M&M or 50 Sent Ja Rule whomever is just another tool for the coporate world or better yet - your all sheep - BAH BAHHH BAHHH

Well Tupac and Styles had some songs. A lot of rappers have song that say we should stop killing but they also have songs that say we should kill.

Well when you see 8 year old white boys with public education wearing basketball jerseys with Wu Tang Clan writtern on the back saying what up "G" - you know Rap and the image isnt cool anymore.

Rap was best in the last 80's to early 90's but like Duran Duran - its best not to always keep it going.

Too many people like it - it sends the wrong message - why does a rich man whether he be black - white - hispanic - whatever be so rich that he can promote crime and violence yet never practices what he preaches?

too many things are wrong with rap today - its too commerical and its too ****ed up - and I dont care for people who listed acts like the "New groundbreaking act from the ghetto" because most likely its Fresh Prince from Bel Air doing a remake

Answer me this: how did you come across them (these acts)?

Because they pay huge dollars to a record label - little talent - dont write there own songs (does anyone write them?) - claim to have killed a hobo on the way to the studio - and there you have it - infact I do believe its this easy and I will test my theory next week

How about no. I dont like the way some people in this thread are stereotyping hip-hop as that crap you hear on the radio most of the time. If you looked a little deeper youll find more meaningfull lyrics, better beats, real hip-hop.

P.S Tom and zul-aid what bands/artists do you like?:D

Well where do you want me to start? I like many bands too many to mention currently im back listerning to The Clash and Time Zone early 80's punk rock (if you would call it that) my music ranges from The Animals and Small Faces to U2 to yes even the Beastie Boys (which im surprised no one has mentioned yet - maybe because they are not a minority and not criminals?)

Ofcourse is not a definitive list as my music is based on influence from families and friends - I truly hated Meat Loaf - found out my current girlfriends loves him - I listern to him.

I dont doubt that either but what I have been saying is the Hip-hop you see on TV and Radio is alll about doing making criminal acts against other human beings and acted out by minorities which in imo is tooo ****ed not just for the minorities that are being wrongfullly classified but also the young children being influenced by it.

Wouldnt you be upset if someone pullled out a gun at someone you loved, killed them, claimed self defence then went on to write 3 albums about it and make millions???

Hell the wouldnt tell sex offenders do that..... wait a minute theres R Kelly! - see record labels and radio stations are promoting criminal behaviour - thats wrong.

Okay you have some good points about violence excetra being wrong. And if as you are saying you are just talking about stuff you see on TV and stuff I cant really argue with that.

P.S Hip Hop Rules,(but not mainstream stuff)

A lot of yall have been saying that anyone can rap and this and that, If's that's the case were's your contract at? You say that it's simplistic and there's no inovation what about all the meaningless pop drivel that exists on the radio and TV and all the copy cat bands that exist in rock and alternative right now. Don't condem the genre because of the worthless **** you here on MTV because alot of the other genres in music are suffering right now. Crime is a way of life for some people, it always has been and always will be and if people want to share there stories then let them that's what free speech is for (At least in the U.S), there are many people such as myself who relate to the music and understand the artist's pain but you won't see me out their in the streets killing and robbing cause that just not me, If you can't relate to the music then don't listen to it your opinion is gonna be biased and what you have to say isn't valued at all

You are right. it is a discussion. A discussion about 3 albumz someone should get. If the person had stayed on topic, he would have commented about the poster's albums not the genre in general, alienating many more people in the process. He came to the thread looking to start a flame war.

Alas I tought I could come here and discuss anything I wanted too.

Everyone is allowed to come here and voice his opinion. I stated that rap music is meaningless crime and hatred promoting and degrading towards human beings as a whole.

Now if people reply and discuss what I have to say then its not my fault for making the thread go off-topic so to speak, look back at how many replied to agree or disagree with what I said - they also did it.

The topic starter picked three albums from what I gather are all from the rap genre. So we cannot discuss the genre just the music? how can you judge the music without something to compare it to.

Umm are you telling me Criminals are ok and that singing about one's antics are ok? are you ****ing insane? where the hell are your parents? - probably down the local supermarket stealing dinner I suppose - Crime and Criminals are not ok if you dont know what a criminal is then there is something wrong with you.

You like rap music = your opinion of rap music is biased too!

any rap, whether it's gangster or any..erm..other type...is ABSOLUTE REGURGITATED MONKEY BRAINS DOSED IN SH1T!!!

i can't stand this boring, talentless drizzle that's supposed to be music (i think?)

and i don't care if it comes from "real experiences..."this is expressing my feelings from the streets, etc, etc."

bulls-hit. i don't care about your feelings. i don't care what your stories or opinions are. just go away and don't infect our radios with this growing cancer of complete tripe.
Is that really considered discussion. You are one of the smartest people here, i know that. That is why i know you realize that this is not a good way to engage in discussion. If he had come here with good points using logic and reason, i guarantee he would have been met with a different response.

Ive been listening to rap(among other genres) since i was around 6 years old. The reason it never influenced me was because i was taught right from wrong. If a kid knows right from wrong then all the gangster rap in the world wont turn him into a gangster. To me, rap is just like watching a movie or reading a book. You have your good guy, your bad guy, and in the end, your good guy always wins by blowing the bad guys brains all over the concrete over drug money. All in a days work.

First of all i'm a grown damn man so don't worry about my where the fu*k my parents are. I never said criminals were ok you, if you'd read my post clearly you would have seen that I said that the whole killing and robbing thing was not for me i.e. showing my disdane for it learn how to comprehend before you come at me like ur crazy. Second of all living in a civilized society (supposedly) I know that crime and criminals are not ok, rappers sing about their past lifestyle to expose listeners to what they had to do to survive and the shock value of it is suppose to deter fans from repeating their mistakes. And big ups to what PScott said people like to blame rap for violence in our society just like they attribute it to videogames but it's not the entertainment that's doing it, it's real live humans beings who have no sense of morality and who are mentally unstable so they use things like rap and videogames to put the blame on their fu*k ups
