90's era and 2000's era in football..

well, I have some footballer compilations in my computer and I watch them sometimes.. it occured to me that I really miss the 90's era in football..

I mean I play PES6, and no team now pushes me to play the game.. let me get this straight.. I remember playing Fifa96 and Championship Manager series, and Gheorghe Hagi, Rivaldo in his prime, George Weah, Francois Oman-Biyik :fool:, Letchkov, Hristo Stoichtkov, Zvonimir Boban, Dejan Savicevic, Predrag Mijatovic, Davor Suker, even Koeman, Gabriel Batistuta, Veron in his prime, Jurgen Klinsmann, Andreas Moller, Matthias Sammer, R. Baggio, Alberigo Evani, Enzo Scifo, Romario etc. they all make sense to me while playing or watching.. the last one in the list was Zinedine Zidane for me.. I remember challenging for the World Cup 98 with the Romanian NT, or Croatian NT..

and take a look at the star player concept now.. would you compare Robinho with Romario?.. Ballack with Andreas Moller?.. Klose for Jurgen Klinsmann?.. Sheva for Gabriel Batistuta?.. Hristo Stoichtkov with Wayne Rooney? Weah with Ruud Van Nistelrooij? ? C. Ronaldo :fool:... only player left that is a joy to watch is Ronaldinho, but not all the time..

dont know about your opinion but in terms of enjoying football, I think it'd be better for me to go back to 90's era..

We tend to like more what we enjoyed as a child or a teenager.
It's the same with music, movies or TV. It's called nostalgia.

but moreover, another thing caught my attention.. the names I wrote down are mostly spectacular attacking midfielders.. during 90's they were playing an important role in football.. but today's modern football, defensive midfielders are far more important.. :-paul:

so you can figure out, maybe it's just me, today's football just doesnt suit my understanding of football so I dont like it anymore and miss 90's era.. or maybe I really tend to like more what I enjoyed as a teenager.. maybe both (H)

In ten years time, you'll consider Sheva, Ronaldinho, Cannavaro, Rooney etc. legends and complain that theres not more like them.

But you can compare C.Ronaldo with Klinsmann, they're both diving cunts.

Does watching him complian to the ref every game also count as it being enjoyable for you? :D Really am I the only one who gets really tired of that?

How can you not enjoy players like Robinho, Reyes, Navas, C. Ronaldo, Messi, Eboue, or even some centerbacks?

the early 90s were a horrible defensive fest, while the late 90s had some awesome displays of offensive football.

there are a lot of players that will stand out for me from the 90s besides those of our golden generation.

i'll never forget Ronaldinho for his years with us, but theres one thing that bugs me about the way he plays right now, he has become somewhat lazy, or maybe he doesn't feel like he needs to work as much cuz barca is the top club right now in europe.

I kinda agree...Right now, I really appreciate Ronaldinho, Van Persie, and Drogba. I know many will disagree with my choices but IMO these guys are better than the average "star".

In my opinion, end of 80's/ beginning of 90's were awesome with great AC Milan with Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, German NT with Matthäus, Völler, Kohler, Klinsmann and players like Michael Laudrup, Careca, Robert Prosinecki, Romario+ Stoichkov at Barcelona, Butrageno, Baggio, Bergkamp, Maradona, Batistuta, Giannini, Papin, Weah, Lineker etc.. But from 1993 the level faded, I think WC 94 was horrible and then it got better again in 97 when Ronaldo was at his peak and one of the most unstopable strikes ever and Rivaldo was becoming a topstar, Zidane having his breakout year, the ManU-Bayern CL Final that was decided in last minute. Now the level is again declining a bit since 2003, atough there are still some players and teams worth to watch such as Ronaldinho, Robben, the Italy- Germany game at WC or the Liverpool- Milan CL Final.

But that's just my opinion and it is influeced by childhood experience, so one who was born in 1997 will see it totally different.

yeah i think football has become a bit dull, ther is no more exciting matches well not a lot there were certainley during the 90s, in the whole 2006 world cup there was only one really good game and that was italy vs germany.

yesterday during the first half of all the champions league matches i think there were only 4 goals scored, thats poor in my opinion, teams now are so scared of losing they just think about stoping the opposition instead of playing attacking attractive football.

there are only a few teams right now who do that, them being arsenal, man u, barca, milan (even though they arent doing very well right now) lyon to a certain extent and thats probably it really.

I think today players are better overall, but the games are worse, because the coaches only play with one player forward and everybody else defending. It's very dull and a big mistake.
