A question to anyone who has played FIFA 2001...

1. is there international selection to put other English players in the England team, or drop back players to the national reserves?

2. when you change each players attributes for an international side (e.g Beckham for England), does their club persona change, e.g. if you rename England's Beckham to BALDY does the club Beckham become BALDY too?

3. is Shearer in the England squad?

1) No, but you can always edit players
2) Don't know about that, but i'd say so. i do know that Beckham has the same attributes for Man U as England, so it is probably related.
3) No
, and he has too much hair. It looks like EA modelled him on the 1994/95 season....

I hope that helps....

Cheers Aussie Geordie!

I have a few more questions if you're willing:

1. do the commentators say all of the names?

2. do the commentators say the goalkeeper's names (e.g. great save by Seaman/Barthez etc...

3. if you rename a player to someone else in the game do the commentators say the replacement name (for instance) if I renamed Wise in the England squad to Cole (Joe), do the commentators say Cole?

Here we go

1) They say most of them, quite a lot actually. Whereas in FIFA 2000, Motson only said a couple of names in the whole Newcastle squad, this year he says all but a few. One of the few is Shearer, and that's unforgivable

2) No, they usually say "great save by the keeper" and stuff like that.
But the commentary is better. They talk between each other after an incident happens. Also, Mark Lawrenson talks about the teams' league position during the match or what they have to do oto get through to the next round of a cup. One example: about 30 games into the season, i played Leeds. After going 1-nil up, Lawrenson said i can't be relegated if i win the match. I can't wait to get further into the season....

3) Haven't tried that, i'll give it a go a tell you later.....

Hi Aussie Geordie,

I have edited the Newcastle squad in Fifa 2001, deleting Perez and transferring Charvet,

I have added Ameobi, Lua Lua, Acuna, Caldwell and fixed squad numbers (ie Dyer is not #7) If you want it leave me a meassage here and I'll e-mail it to you. Oh yeah and by the way, Shearer now does not have so much hair!!

Howay the lads NUFC 2 (Shearer 2), Ipswich T 1

in regards to the keepers..

when i play bosnich as a striker in man u, the commentator says "bosnich".. so the name is in the database, (I dont know why, bosnich isnt a striker) i dont know why his name is in the database if they dont mention commentator names.

man, ea are so mean.. in fifa 2000 he had a fast speed, now its like 3, what bastards
now he runs so slow and he sucks as a striker.

Well Done Newcastle. There ain't going to be a lot of teams beating Ipswich this year.
That goal-lince clearance by Kieron Dyer was extremely annoying though...

Remarkable aye, Ipswich doing so well, they even managed a draw with Arsenal, and for a surprisingly fair percentage of that game (unlike Arsenal's draw with Bradford) they looked like they deserved the point they got. They also managed to beat Arsenal in the worthington cup, and at home, which shocked me

But anyway, back to FIFA2001, unfortunately the commentators still say 'the keeper' instead of the his name, for every voice pitch or tone of voice used a new recording of the goal keepers name must be made, and if you have to do that for every goal keeper in every team, for very pitch or tone of voice (porbably three) it would increase the file a whole deal, which is why you would notice that for the players, there names are only metntioned in one voice pitch or tone, I.e. when they are passed the ball at the start of a run of commentary. However it is still no excuse, because for top goalkeeprs they could have made that possible etc, but can you imagine the likes of Mark Lawrenson, and John Motson, and all the other commentators they recruited form different countries having to say each goal keepers name in three different ways... well thats why, but again there are ways round that especially with voice manipulation programming etc... so still EA don't have much of an excuse..they would probably tell you it is just not economical.
