Untill this moment, no african team could win a victory in that tournament.
I dunno if the wrong teams were qualified or the 5 places are too many for africa.

also pick the 5 african teams u think they should have been qualified
only 5.
My picks are Cameroon, Cote D'Ivoire, Egypt, Nigeria & Tunisia

its not that the african teams are bad its the groups that their in ivory coast is a ligitimate team but look who they had to play holland and argentina and they still came out of it with impresive results

Best two africans teams at WC, Ivory Coast and Ghana are in hardest groups.

Ivory Coast are really unlucky firstly there were drawn in hardest quilifying group with Egypt and Cameroon. Then they got drawn with Holland and Argentina. If they had been in a different group like Togo's, they would have qualified to next round.

Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal all messed up big time espeacially Nigeria who finished same points as Angola. I still cant believe Senegal finished 2nd below Togo. :|

What do you mean "wrong teams"? Pointless argument, really. The teams that have qualified were obviously the best in their respective groups, so they deserve to be here, There'll always be disappointing teams at any tournament, as well as teams playing suprisingly well. Plenty of European teams have played crap so far, like France, Serbia and Ukraine, are they "wrong teams" too? Not to mention various "big" teams being disappointing as well - in various degress - like England, Brazil, Portugal etc.

How many spots is Africa going to have in 2010? 5 include a South Africa as a host? That would be unfair, South Africa are really crap. There are many africans teams who are much better than SA: Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Morrocco and maybe even Togo, Angola and Tunisia. I am hoping it will at least 6 include a host.

I think 5 teams is too many, especially considering that South America has only 4+1.
Maybe 3, maximum 4, would be the right number.

It's such a shame not to see an African nation shine.

I would've loved to see Cameroon and Nigeria instead of Angola and Togo. Africa would've had a far greater chance to do something special.

what a stupid thread. The best five teams (whatever you class "best" as) qualified, and I for one wouldnt change that method at all.

How can you say, "cameroon should be in it" when they DIDNT do it in qualifying? It isnt even an arguement.

Personally i think the African teams have shown good spirit this year, and I think the five who have come have been totally fine. I mean i can see what you mean about having less than five, but then you get into the huge arguement of who else should get another place, seeing as the more places Africa has, the more opportunity there is for football to develop in Africa.

South American teams are very good, but to say 5 is too many is not right.

Just look at the map of South America and of Africa. Of course not all of them are good at football.

S.America: http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/southamerica.html
Africa: http://www.africaguide.com/afmap.htm

I know the maps very well, but the fact is that South America already won 9 World Cups, and has a very long tradition in football, while Africa...
Sure they had a big development in the last 20 years, but it's a known fact that Africa has 5 teams because of political reasons: more countries, more votes in FIFA to elect the President.

Ivory Coast > many teams that are going through in other groups. Too bad they have the toughest group and against refeering.

About the number of african teams going to the WC, I think 5 is a good number. Reduce it? FFS, don't steal their dreams to people whose only reason to smile is sometimes football.

Right and right. It's Eto'o's fault Cameroon didn't qualify. He was too pussy to take a penalty.

I think Africa deserve their slots.

The 5th best S. Am. team is, on paper, better than the 3rd best african. But hey, Africa has some 50+ votes in the FIFA elections, S. Am. has 10. It does look unfair, since half of the S. Am. sides qualify, but still...
