Well guyz, after the pics post, I spent my weekend playing it and, now I guess that I can talk about the game...
Just for you to understand about what I`m thinking, I'm a 26 years old FOOTBALL fan and play Fifa since the 94 first version for Sega Genesis. I had all the versions for PC since 94 (96/7/8/9), but 99 version made me really mad with EA and then, thanx God, I found Winning Eleven 4 for psx. Then I used to play Fifa just when it was released, getting tired soon. Now, when I saw the first ingame movie, I felt it again...
Well, what I think...
Pros:
- Ambience. The feeling of beeing inside the venue was never taken this far before. It's incredible. The crowd, the stadiums and the teams reaction r very (VERY) well implemented
- Realism. Most of the players of the Club Championship r really near to reality, you can identify most of them from far away. Even the movements of some players are pretty realistc and near to the real ones (Davids, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Zidane, Becham, Rio, Kanu, Elber, and maybe others...).
- Camera mode. Altough many arcade players didn't liked, a soccer game never had a camera mode so realistic. The broad cast view is the nearest of reality a game ever reached. It really makes u feel it's real, even making u want to see the replays, to understand some palys (as in a real tv transmission).
- Graphics. Well, this is again a pro item. The stadiums mainly, are really fine. Even stadiums that were already present in the serie was rewrote and really near to real ones (San Siro, Nou Camp, Amsterdan Arena (uau!!)). Whenever, all the stadiums are pretty, really pretty fine.
- CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. This is far away the best part of the game. Nothing to say about it, you've got to feel. It really rox, and it's what makesmu don't need the CC for almost a month
- Gameplay. It's not perfect yet, but it's good. Even not beeing perfect, it makes the game playable, and now u can enjoy the other parts, ti now looks as a football game. This was impossible with the last versions. It makes it more like a simulation.
- AI. Idem Gameplay. It's better, now the differences between semi-pro, pro and World class are more concerned with the way the cpu plays, and it still real.
- Ball physics. Idem the last two, not perfect, bu better.
NEGATIVE:
- Gameplay. As those who ever played WE (PES) series, I do think that it's not perfect (as WE i'sn't too). It has a lot to improve, still has some of the old series and got to be improved. Anyway the games got more timming now, and is closest to reality.
- AI. Well, it could be better, the game beeing easier thosen't mean that the cpu don't run (as in semi-pro mode). Other issues will be found.
- Ball physics. It still seems a bit scripted (as in fact, is in WE too). There will be a perfect ball physic when every touch to the ball (and of the ball to the net, and of the net with the ball) produces a reaction effect, and it doesn't yet. But it's better too.
Final Concerns...
Well, it's impossible to talk about a game without parameters. Even in 98, when fifa was far away the best footbal game, there were people comparing it with ISS (doh!).
What a think is that now we'll got to think different. We now got to separate the gameplay and realism in two different items. Gameplay alone doesn't mean reality anymore. A game to seem real need a couple of items, and fifa is better in many of them.
After I saw WE's gameplay, i couldn't play fifa anymore. Now that I've seen fifa's ambience (broadcast cam, stadiums, player moves, kits and faces), i can't feel realism in my WE, and it will take a rest. Fifa2k3, with it's at least playable gameplay is realistic in the union of all the items, and we is not.
Now we got a question that will remain for some time. What is simulation and what is arcade? In my opinion, the one tha gets nearest to the reality is simulation.
