Aiming Shots on Goal in FIFA 2003?

I am still playing/evaluating the FIFA 2003 demo. Could someone explain how I aim my shots on goal? In FIFA 99, the last version I purchased, I was able to aim my shots right or left, high or low. In this version, without having a manual to explain the aiming system, I have been unable to control the shot's location with any accuracy. (This isn't even addressed in the Readme.txt file.) Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Bill R.

Do I press the top of the d-pad to aim up high? Do I press the upper-right corner of the d-pad to hit the top right side of the goal? I do not understand how the d-pad corresponds to the goal. Would someone clarify this for me?

jjbeggs - I do plan on getting the game within the next few days, but I would like to get a better idea of what to expect before dropping $40.

no, whatever direction you're facing when you shoot it is where it will go if you continue to hold in that direction. then any other direction yo move it from there is displacement to the angle you are running at.

Thanks for the help guys, but I believe it is only something that takes experience to learn rather than someone explaining it.

I went a purchased the game today and I am still getting familar to the aiming system. At times, I am shooting the ball out of bounds unintentionally.

I'm playing the Xbox version. But with my strikers I'm able to aim by pressing diagonally towards the goal. Hence if you're attacking to the left, by pressing diagonally down left, my shot will shoot towards that corner. As for height of the shot only thing I noticed is if it's a weak shot then the tendency is for the shot to be closer to the ground. Harder shots tend to drift higher up, I don't think I need to tell you that if you shoot too hard, your accuracy drops. I've had some luck using the lob button to chip the keeper at times as well.

Aim

You shouldn't have big problem for aiming. As long as you are pointing the D-pad or what ever contorl you are using to the direction you want to shoot, you should be fine. Whether shooting top or low depends on your strength of shooting the ball. Hope this help.

The fact that the only control we have over the height of the shot is its strength seems counter-intuitive. I had always presumed that the best players can aim their shots fairly accurately regardless of how hard they kick the ball. Is this incorrect?

I'm using the Logi Wingman Rumblepad and I'm having a hell of a time scoring!:f***:
I'm only playing at semi-pro level and I can out shooy the cpu by a 10-1 margin but I just can't get the damn ball in the net.
Is there any way to put a curve on the ball like fifa 2002 or did EA get rid of that feature?

Aiming sux

Up to now I still hate the aiming system from Fifa 2003. I will practise now in Amature mode with the best football team on earth so that my opponent is so stupid he won't take the ball from me if I am standing still in the box. Too bad there's not a trainer mode or a 2 player mode. Then I would have the ultimate freedom to practise.

Anyhow, it sux. People say you have to aim the player itself to aim the ball. Where your player is walking, the ball will go. But that's totally stupid!! A normal footballplayer in real never shoots where he's walking. Cause that would be too obvious for the keeper, wouldn't it?? In real life you can just walk STRAIGHT FORWARD and just shoot the ball to the right or left??? I mean, your legs aren't made of STONE!!!

And aiming with the player...when I want to shoot the corner and my player at THAT moment is running straight forward...then I push the down button once...very short...then the player turns 45 degrees...when I shoot then it'll go way wide and the commentators will laugh at me and leave me embarresed;) ...

If only it would've been just like fifa99. The aiming is only done with the arrowkeys. The rest by the artificial intelligence of your own player. If the goal will be there depends on how strong the player itself is.

Oh well, if anybody can give me tips OTHER THAN just walk in the direction you want to shoot...please do so...the forum is too crowded to just search voor aimstories. And the search-engine doesn't even let me search for AIM!!

Man...everything about fifa2003 is great exept the aiming:(

actually, i Found that aiming in fifa isnt really a matter of actually "aiming" your shot, but rather timing it right. Generally I just direct my shot straight at the goal, and my players tend to let their shots drift into the corners of the net.... Maybe this is an intentional function? All I know is that if I aim my shots directly at the net (not aiming to shoot at my corners or diagonal shots), I will usually always be on target. Shooting normally like this won't get you goals, but if you are reasonably close (ive scored from about 10 yards out from the box, on world class, not a free kick:P), and you gauge the power meter PERFECTLY to where it stops RIGHT before the red area, you will have a great chance of scoring a goal.... Of course this works better with the players that have a 9 or 10 in the shooting attribute :P

Nice to know you read all the online info that was available before the games release!

The power bar is split into 3 parts:

The 1st part is for instant shots (i.e. powering up and shooting before you get the ball)

The 2nd part is the lower bit of the power bar which is a power range for low shots, if you hit it just below the cut off point you get a low hard shot and if you hit it just above the cut off point (3rd part) you get a weak higher shot. Understand? The tricky bit is finding the cut off point, I don't very often get low powerful shots.

3 parts??

Could you explain to me another way of the 3 parts? I only see 1 part. Just a bar with green and red and if you hold the D (shooting button) then the bar lights up. Don't let it go red, or you'll miss. The shorter you hold the D the lower the ball.

Or were you describing another gaming platform??

Yeah that was mean, what a nob. I like the way the guy didn't dis him back cos i would have done.

Anyway, surely aiming the shot would be a lot simpler if you could curl the damn thing. please someone tell me how, i know its not aftertouch.

Sorry it took so long to reply but...

It is only visibly 1 part, but you might notice (mainly in the lower 3rd of the bar) that a low power shot stays low and actually moves faster than a mid-power shot (the type of shot that bobbles past or over the keeper or goes top corner from inside the box (almost like a chip shot but with a flatetr arc)).

You are right, the shorter you press the button the lower the shot, but it doesn't also mean the weeker the shot.

Here's a crude representation of the bar (rotate it in your head)

How it appears in the game:
