Alfonso Alves

mcq

Youth Team
according to bbc sport, "Manchester United are trailing Heerenveen's Brazilian striker Alfonso Alves who has scored 34 goals in 31 games this season."

is he any good?

Kibe Kru

Starting XI
He was just called up for the Brazilian National Team and he will face England at Wembley.

Doubt Dunga knows him all that well though...

It's Afonso Alves, for the record.
Personally I think he's a one season fly. He scores against the likes of ADO and RKC, but he does sh*t all against the top teams. Don't think he can handle the level of Man Utd, TBH,

Past half season: 5 against Feyenoord, 1 against PSV, 1 against AZ, 1 against Twente, 1 against Groningen, 0 against Vitesse. To say he's uneffective against the bigger teams (in the Netherlands, of course) is a lie.

Still, doesn't prove his value in a non-mediocre league.

He doesnt represent value for money. For 20m € (that's what Heerenveen want, so they say) you can get yourself a better player

Feyenoord isn't a top team...

They don't want to sell him, because they don't need the money. So they'll only sell him for an extravagant fee.

Nothing weird about that asking price, even if he's worth less than half that.

No Dutch team is a top team, PSV may touch on the subtop. Doesn't take away the fact that he does score against the bigger teams in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord aren't even a top team in the eredivisie, I mean. Not at this moment anyway, I rank Heerenveen higher than Feyenoord and so does the final league table.
My point is he doesn't cut it, when it really matters.

I know what you mean, and it doesn't stand ground at any level.

He has scored against the better teams he has faced, only against Ajax has he been truly shut down.

That's what you get when you face Japie, I guess. While Stam's standard is about the defensive quality he's going to have to face in the top competitions.
Moreover, whenever he scored versus the better teams his team lost, so he wasn't able to save them.

pfft.34goals a season is amazing.stop posting bull* abt he cant score against big teams.yeah the fact shows that he cant score against big teams

but if u say the same to this boy, then why ronaldo has been voted as player of the year? he never shines in most of the game against big team this season

vs milan, vs chelsea, vs liverpool, vs ars. did ronaldo starts from the bench in those matches?

ok he can do diving & stepovers against cheap defenders like boro or etc.

I'm sorry, but I did not understand a word you just said, can you please rephrase?

Anyway, I don't think Alves would cut it in ManU or Chelsea, or ahy top team in England, maybe he'd do well in mid-table teams, but I don't think he'll be worth the buy for any big team.

ok i'm sorry for my english

what i mean here is i just dont understand why peoples always think that players that came through from holland (esp. stikers) cant make it big in europe.

the boy himself has prooved that he can score goals.i mean alot of goals which is amazing but it's ridiculous that people said he never shines in vs big teams matches...i agree that the fact that he dont score goals against big teams but don't forget his contribution to the team. (passing, holding the ball, tackling & etc.)

if peoples talk abt the so called "cant shine in a big matches" then look at c.ronaldo.he is amazing against mid table team but where is he when man u against big teams?

so the point is; dont talk he is nothing or watsoever.the fact is he scores 34 goals in a good football country(H)

*i'm here just to defend err.. Alves? oh okay. i know i'm quite vain here.hahaha
