It's an arcade game nothing more, nothing less.

I know Fifa has it flaws, but PES got them too and then GTA Vice City does, Rise of nations, should I go on?

No the thing is I always thought that there were two kinds of footygame fans in this world:

- Arcade style (PES)

- Simulation style (FIFA)

but there are three I guess, a combination of those two is also a possibillity.

No offense but PES just isn't my game, it was FIFA, it is FIFA and it will always be FIFA.

But I finally got the chance to check out PES and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by it, but then again not my kind of footygame.

To all PES fans out there: It's a great game, not my game, but for those who like it, I think it's a great game.

Maybe if EA bought Konami or vice versa, then we could have a game for everybody, but untill then I guess we will keep the PES/FIFA discussion :)

Can I ask you a question? Do you know the difference between Arcade and Simulation?

How can you say PES 3 is an arcade? and how is it possible that fifa 2004 is a simulation? So in your openion fast bullet shots, unrealistic ball physics makes a simulation game? PES3 is more like a simulation. It takes time to score, it takes an effort for you to get a the ball behind the keeper. In FIFA 2004 I can score all my goal in long range shot, basic controlling will make me score.

I think he thinks PES is an 'Arcade' game because he seen KONAMI down at his local arcade hall whereas EA he's only seen as a PC or Playstation game...obviously this guy has a sound basis for his argument :D

what the hell those things have to do with each other...c'mon!!

look...pay attention to that...check how easy can u dribble in PES and then, how easy u can do it in FIFA...and then, check the real life...notice how many dribbles or how and why (I mean distance from the opponent) player who possess the ball, carry it.

and please...stop with this childish thing, about PES fans being intelectually superior...Nazism is dead.

its not like that for FIFA 2k4...I played it, damn...I hated FIFA 2k3, I loved WE 7...I still like it, but well, there are some things in PES that simply don't feel real...like the 'gliding over ice' dribbles, for example...things that FIFA offer in a more realistic way...

check a Man u X Arsenal match...then, play it (the FULL version, not the demo) in FIFA 2k4 and do the same with PES 3...and then, compare it...

please, u all PES fans, stop saying 'gameplay' as something over the control u got over each player, but face 'gameplay' as an interactivity of the game atmosphere...something that FIFA always offered, but, in a weaker way...but, this year...strongest strong way...

You need to loosen up...I was trying to bring humour to the discussion....obviously you take all this stuff personally and far far far tooo seriously...

My advice to u dude is go get a life....there are better things to do than bring up politics when a computer game is involved. :f***: :f***:

LOOK GUYS, IT WILL ALLWAYS NE PRO EVO. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE EVEN ARGUE ABOUT IT ANYWAY. KONAMI IS ALLWAYS AHEAD OF EA SPORTS AND EA ALLWAYS MAKES THE WRONG MOVE WHEN TRYING TO COPY STH FROM PRO EVO BECAUSE NOBODY IN THERE KNOWS WHAT THE AMER WANTS (E.G. THE CORNERS AND FOULS IN FIFA 2004 - THE ''OFF THE BALL" THING- IT'S SO DISSAPOINTING).

P.S.
WE ARE A FOOTBALL TRIBE.
IF FOOTBALL IS YOUR RELIGION, PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER IS YOUR GOD.

Maybe I have to explain some things here.
First of all I don't hate arcade games, I love them. I just never played PES and my first encounter with the game just couldn't convince me. And still I think the looks of the game give a very arcadish feeling, that's why I call it an arcade game.

And to pokwang: You were right after playing a whole day to a friend of mine I got amazed by the freedom of the game, this game really rocks, I got the hang of it now. But still in my opinion fifa is also a great game.

So here is my problem now:

I got to buy both games (there goes my gaming budget for the next two months) LOL.

Try this for a test:

Start FIFA demo.... let CPU play against CPU.

Watch ball being passed through the middle of the pitch. Watch standard goal.

Repeat 50 times. Truly, if anyone does not slit their wrists after enduring such predictable AI, you must be blind.

Watch a PES3 demo, and you will see the CPU play a much more varied style. Players shield the ball, and try to maintain possession.

Even a FIFA fan can see there is a problem with the AI (surely?).

There is some truth what you said about PES tinytim. Maybe the dribbling are too easy. But i think this is affected only by advanced PES players.

I play PES since 1997 and i wasn`t always content about the game. But Konami always made improvements and it is still far away from reality.

I played FIFA 2004 and i realized that the game is very similar to PES series:
PES never used arrows to aim, and the annoying circles under the players like FIFA used to do.(i think PES copied this from Virtua Stiker. Hey Snooze you should check this game this is called a arcade game! Where you can`t substitute players and change formations)
PES never changed the default config of the controller. In FIFA 2004 they completely changed the buttons and you can`t change it!!! (in Demo you couldn`t but i have the full version!!) In almost every game you can change the default config.
But the most annoying point is the ball physic. they did not improved it!

Can`t say about the players but i don`t think the ball physic is more real than in PES. The fact is: the ball in PES has more polgones than in FIFA. You see in FIFA when you shoot the ball feels faster but it does not fly smooth.
But i admit the ball phsics in FIFA is getting better.

I must admit, I am finally convinced. I will play PES 3 this year more than I will FIFA. Mainly because with pro evo you can receive the ball and walk with the it for a while, and this is fifa's main flaw, without having 3 or 4 defenders storm you. I mean there's nothing realistic with the fact that when I pass the ball after being run into by a defender, that the same defender is almost as fast as the passed ball. So I must say although PES is not (to my feeling) simulation, it's a lot more fun to play. And mind you before the PES 3 PC demo I never played PES. So I think it's very weird that after being a dedicated FIFA fan, in two weeks time I'm convinced PES is a better game.

It is just so that PES reminds me of the old footygames in arcade halls. Great fun but always very difficult to master. But it is definitly not a simulation game IMO. Again I would like to point out that the guys at EA still cannot make a flawless game but then again will that ever be possible?

When you mean FIFA is more of a sim, in which aspect gamplay or because it has real players, teams, jerseys, stadiuns and chants?

If you are talking about gameplay I just don´t see how you can consider FIFA a sim, have you ever notice that in real life certain players just can´t strike the ball with both feet? In FIFA that does not come into play strikers like Raul, Owen, Trezegue and many more that only can strike the ball well with one foot can score with both just about from anywhere. Plus you could be totally off balance in FIFA and yet manage a great shot, in PES you have to have space and be balanced for a aimed shot.

Plus have you ever notice how all the teams in FIFA have the same tactics? In PES3 (full) all the teams are based on real ones, even though they have fake names they try to play it like the real clubs, some play by the wings other rely on counter attacks and so on, when I play with my friends each has a favorite team because of that I prefer to play with teams that have good counter attacks like Arsenal. You simply don´t get that in FIFA.

Of course neither of these game are a perfect sim, but PES comes the closest to it. Just the amount of tactics you can pick and the way the player attributes make a difference, ex: Its easier not commit a fould by tackling with a good defender like Nesta or Maldini. Player sizes do make then a better header, there is stats for shot accuracy for left and right foot, so if you striker has a poor left foot and you shot he will wait till the ball is near his right to strike he will mostly never shot with his left.

I could go on and on...

u still didn't play FIFA 2k4...it's been a long time since a fifa edition don't get 5/5...it did here in Brazil and believe me: we are the WE land...everybody here loves it, including mags and game sites...and yes...ok, watch a footy mach and tell me if players move so lightly as in PES…NO!! they don’t…PES, honestly speaking…offers u control over players and players alone, coz it is damn easy to dribble…that’s why people love PES and talk about its ‘gameplay’…c’mon…u don’t see some of moves executed in PES so easily in real life…I’m talking from a point of view of a fifa 2k4 reality already…I hated 2k3…everything on it was so predictable or disonest…coz the CPU always had a last trick in the sleeve to beat u…but its not like that in 2k4, I guarantee…and I only played the demo…u know, FIFA fans are even more honest than PES and they hated other versions…but 2k4…no, it’s not like that…

About the goals scored exactly the same…no way, too…I was able to score (in the demo) many different ways, and some of those ways are similar to the ways u can score in PES…something that didn’t happen in FIFA 2k3…another ‘special’ thing from PES…u can never score PES goals with 2k3…but u can in 2k4!! I even could score a goal with Schevchenko heading…it was really nice, specially coz I did it with the keyboard…And the cpu can score u in a biiig number of mastered ways…Del Piero and Nedved really punished me…everytime the ball got to them they shot a different kind of mastered kick, really nice…I remember a goal that Trezeguet scored against me…Nedved confused my defense with a very nice play, attracting all my defenders and he made Trezeguet to stand alone and just tap in (strongly) against my goal…very cool, indeed.

I think FIFA 2k4 is closer to reality, coz it gathers more in-field factors, realistic factors…and that’s coming from a real WE fan…I really loved it and I was eagerly expecting PES 3 (WE 7)…believe me, I couldn’t play fifa 2k4 yet, but when I do it…my believes will be even more assured. I know it…man I play videogame since my 5, I can tell when a game it’s gonna be good from the pics…almost no mistake about it…heehhe 90% sure most of times…and it was like that with fifa, since the first videos…

Open ur mind and play it without considering it’s a EA’s product…close ur eyes and ur ears when EA’s logo appear and the ‘It’s in the game’ slogan is told…then play it…and then, tell me…

I might agree on the dribbles against the CPU, far to easy, but if you play against skilled oponents you will how hard it is. You just cannot try to rush forward for the ball, you have to mark with a DM and move in with your RB or LB when near the box to take the ball. Of course in counters are easier to get dribbled but nothing tackle will solve, just think this in a real game a player will never let the striker dribble him without commiting a foul once the striker is past him. He will probably chase and push or tackle, you have to do the same in the game.

Again I ask how can you consider righly a game that stats mean very little, that any defender that is slow as hell can catch up with Shev. Or that a striker like Owen can shot ******* well with any feet. I played the full version of FIFA2k4 so I know

They are the same, the difference is that WE is in PAL format and PES in NTSC, NTSC has a higher refresh rate that makes the game a little faster.
