And I thought Americans were rednecks...

It would be funny if an innocent person didn't die bcs of this...

This story was on the news today and it happened in the north of Portugal.
Some dude was driving on the highway. Some other dude was driving right behind him. The first dude, whom I'll from now on call 'The First Dude', had his car pouring white smoke from his car's exhaust pipe and didn't know it. The second dude, in a friendly gesture, tried to warn him by flashing his car's lights. 'The First Dude' didn't understand and thought he was just trying to get on his nerves. So what does he do? Lets the second dude overtake him and follows his car until he drives home. When the second dude parked his car, 'The First Dude' jumps out of his vehicle and starts arguing with him. While the second dude was trying to explain that he only wanted to help, 'The First Dude' draws a gun, and fires three shots: the first shot hit HIMSELF :D, but unfortunately the other shots killed the second dude. He's in jail now. Welcome to the monkey house.

The sad thing is that this probably happens tons of times over here. :p :D

haha, now that's funny. When I go to Europe they ask, "where are you from?" I answer, "Georgia." They say, "you don't look Georgian."

Best joke ot tell in Europe to non English speakers. "Why did the chicken cross the road?" Works every time.

Yep, catching up with the idea of tarriffs too

Tarriffs against the US or the whole world? Tarriffs are silly. I heard the news about those tarriffs they are about to impose on the US. Awww schucks, us cornpokes down here in the south won't know what to do!!

Retaliatory tarriffs, now that the WTO has discovered some balls and ruled the US tarriffs on steel imports imposed last year are illegal. Japan will follow suit. They are going to target imports from states that will be crucial to Bush's relection.

The original tarriffs he imposed haven't had the desired effect (other than to placate the steel production industry) because there have ended up being more jobs lost in the steel using industries than have been saved in the steel making industry :|

Tarriffs never work, but neither do illegal subsidies that the EU pumps out yearly. I don't think Bush will have any trouble getting reelected because the Unions that wanted these tarriffs don't vote Republican anyway. Either way it was a bad move on the President's part. But I don't think the EU can withstand a trade war with the shape of their economy right now.

Steel in this country is dead. I think the same thing happened to Japan in the 80's. I read a book about the Japanese business model and how they don't like to fire people. This steel corporation was losing it's ass in the market and told this group of employees to come up with some new invention that used steel. So instead of firing these people, they were able to come up with indoor ski slopes that are popular in Japan or something.

Maybe US workers should do the same thing in the face of changing times. But I do think it's funny that the EU is actively targeting states that would be crucial to a Bush reelection. Gotta love when unelected beaurocrats who think they own the world start meddling in US politics. I have a feeling there will be hell to pay.

but hopefully not.

Its a tricky situation, but my guess is (if he has the political nous) he will leave them in place since they were meant to be in place for three years only, theoretically to give steel makers enough time to restructure their business, and then remove them just in time before the EU tarriffs come in and say the industry has had enough time to restructure.

Speaking of Japan, I see that Toyota have overtaken Ford as the number one automobile maker for the first time ever

And speaking of unelected beaurocrats... Donald Rumsfeld :mrpimp:

Good point, never thought of that! I guess he is pretty powerful, but a far cry from EU politicians. I still can't figure out how Europe is allowing such an organization. At least the Brits have some common sense left. Even if they are part of it.....

Wouldn't surprise me. Ford just doesn't make very good cars. "Found On Road Dead" is not just a joke.

Bush doesn't cave in on much, but this may be one issue where he does. His reelection depends more on a healthy economy than steel tarriffs. Right now the economy is booming again, and a trade war might put a small dent in that progress. But maybe you are right on the 3 year deal.

Yeah, it's true. The spooky part is that, when I was searching for online news about this case, no matter what I typed in google (portuguese words only and all connected to this murder), I always got 100 pages of brazilian cases involving people with similar names. I tried using made-up names and still got hundreds of news about shootings, murders, etc., in Brazil. :|

Hugo, that's not a sign of redneckism at all. I mean in Portugal the traffic is always fast(sadly, the reason for the huge amount of wrecks), so the guy probably just lost his mind. I mean besides, I think rednecks would shoot from the car.:p
