This has also happened to some baseballplayers parents as well. Ugueth(sp?) Urbina had his mom kidnapped and he's not from Brazil. I guess the kidnappers feel its a way to make some easy money.

They're only doing it because they're yet to get caught, and the kidnappers are all getting ALOT of money when they return the mothers.

If one of them got caught, then it'd stop, but this is an easy way for them to make a hell of alot of money.

kidnapping for ransom has been happening for centuries... it'll never stop unless one day there isn't such a huge gap between rich and poor in those countries. Which ofcourse will likely never be..
