first i'd like to say rest in peace Puerta. a tragic moment for football again.

and why this seems more a tragedy more than a statistic? i think its logical. you watch this guy week in week out on TV, get to "know" him in a way, even more so if youre a fan of Sevilla. that is the reason why youre more saddened by this, than by thousands of dead each day in Africa. you dont know those african children, you never saw their faces, what they did in life. it doesnt mean that that isnt a tragedy. its just more personal, even though it sounds weird. as the level of familiarity with the passed away person grows, the more you are affected emotionally (duh...). when a friend passes away, you dont think, "well ok, thousands die each day."
like i said, it may sound silly that i mention that we "knew" this player, but thats my opinion.

again, a sad day for football.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS, its so upsetting, earlier this year i was watching him vs spurs and i thought, this player is decent, causing a lot of trouble down that left

and you would' expected him to become a usseful international for spain and athe same for sevilla, his life cut so so short,i mean hes just TWO years older than my brother ffs

rip

@Capela: I'm sorry, but I don't feel anything about the millions of people dying in Africa. I'm pretty certain you don't either. Nor do I feel anything for Puerta, but I act like I'm sorrowful out of respect for him. So show some respect and rant about african deaths somewhere else, some people want to pay their dues without some jerkoff bothering them.
i wander if ppl would feel sorrow for you if u died tomorrow... :o

there are other players with heart diseases like this e.g. fadiga

now there really must be better health checkups on players regarding issues like this

No, I don't want them to. Not people I don't know. I expect my family and friends would, but I don't care if anyone else does. I expect my death to be respected and that's it. I wouldn't feel anything if half the people on SG died, does that make me a bad person? No. Just means I don't lie to make people like me.

Once again, RIP Puerta.

You shouldnt be allowed to play, even if you wanted so, if you had an incurable heart disease. And yes i agree, there must better and more comprehensive exams for a player. I know that's a cold view of the facts, but a life could've been saved.

Terrible, RIP Antonio.

Shame on the club doctors if they were aware of this.

Shame on the club doctors if they werent aware of this aswell, considering Puerta fainted twice already, according to Luis Fabiano.

i must be a an asshole but i don't feel anything
i can't be sad for a person who lived a good life when there's thousands of people dying in ways that i can't even imagine. who gives a s*** about all the people dying of starvation ? no one. but a player dies and everyone is sorry
i'm sorry too but that's life, i'm sad but all this talk about him makes me sick
i guess Stalin was right "the death of one is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic"

when you think in his wife ( is waiting for a soon in next moth) or his parents, dont make you sad ?? 2 days ago was sevilla player and now he is dead

Clive Clarke who's on loan at Leicester City has collapsed tonight at half time during a Carling cup tie between Leicester and Nottingham Forest, the match has been cancelled. He collapsed in the dressing room. We can only hope he is ok.

Help?

Unbelievable. This kind of thing happens almost every year now, its almost like it became an annual thing. Something really has to be because there is obviously a problem. A 22 year old is not supposed to get that kind of things.

RIP Puerta

If he didnt have any problems at all and was perfectly healthy yea, but the doc already said he had an hereditary heart disease, so his life was always at stake from the moment he put his foot on inside a pitch, unfortunately.

I've saw the match on TV live. I though at the first moment "Oh, God, Foe all over again" (I've also saw him fading in the Colombia-Cameroon) and it seems that he was getting asphyxiated by his tongue (I think), and at that moment Drago and all the medical staff cames to trying rescue him.

I though he will be alright since he was able to get up.

Hell, I was wrong.

But, if Sevilla medical staff knew about the condition of Puerta, my god, they should be ruled out from being doctors for the rest of his life and even open a penal process against them. And, if the administrative heads of Sevilla knew also about it, the whole club (and that could be a hard, unfair punishment) should be banned from competing in Europe or something.

Again, pending from an investigation of the medical staff and their behavior.

Nothing else to say. R.I.P. Antonio Puerta
