The average PC user will most probably never even think about using the advanced features that XP Pro provides. Go to Microsoft's website, and look at the comparison page; or just look on www.google.com for the differences. Is he a network administrator, for example?? XP Pro is total 'over-kill' for an average domestic PC user.

I've been using Windows XP Home Edition since October 2001, and I'm a relatively 'advanced' user; it does everything that I ask of it (within reason of course). It's an excellent version of XP, and I doubt that he would even use most of XP Home's features! When configured correctly, XP (Home) is an excellent operating system- and extremely stable. lol....plz,
I need to get my head through the door to make a living...hehehe.

I've been using XP Pro since it's Beta days and was a stout user and supporter of Win 98SE and was convinced that nothing could replace it.

Win 98/SE had so many issues that would cause it to crash that it wasn't funny, when I put in XP Pro and went through my 1st year without one crash I knew I had a much better OS than I could have expected.

I prefer Pro over Home because it has the networking options that I need to run my VPN at home. I've actually never even tried Home and not sure what the difference is between the 2.

I do know this, Win 98SE is much more stable than win 98 and both of those are much more stable than WinME and none of those even come close to the stability of Windows XP.

There were some issues in the beginning that people had with XP but that seems to have worked itself out and if you are using XP Home or Pro you definately should have the Service Pack 1 installed there a number of security issues that were patched and as far as security goes ...I couldnt care less I dont run a business or a bank on my PC so do your worst...it only takes me an hour to reinstall windows ....lol.
