yes i don't understand it either.....the better the English teams do, the more European spots they will receive....How else will Chelsea get a European spot?

Not just an English thing... In Brazil people are like that (and I even supported........ Man Utd.... ) when they played Palmeiras sometime ago (and I'm sure they wanted every team to beat Corinthians when we played on the world club championship)

It´s not only an English thing. For Example: I´m a Bayern fan and supported PSV today against the German team (Dortmund). I really hate Dortmund

Not much to say really we didnt deserve a victory and auxerre played well in the 1st half esp but we had the better of the second half, great to see pires back though now for bergkamp.
