Roma move closer to Vucinic Friday 28 July, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma are ready to offer £5.7m for the services of Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic, one of the many names on Coach Luciano Spalletti’s wish list for the new season.

The Calciopoli appeal verdicts awarded the Giallorossi with a place in the Champions League and relegated Lecce to Serie B, thus making the transfer a real possibility.

Lecce are demanding £8.5m, or £6.4m plus the part exchange of youngsters Aleandro Rosi and Stefano Okaka.

However, Roma are ready to offer cash, youth team players Andrea Giacomini and Fabrizio Grillo, plus Alessio Cerci.

The deal could be sealed by the end of next week, allowing Vucinic to join Roma in pre-season training as soon as possible.

The Roman club have also expressed an interest in strengthening the midfield with Stephen Appiah and Alou Diarra paired.

Former Juve ace Appiah is interested in the possibility of returning to Italy and his agent is having preliminary conversations with any interested parties.

“Roma are an important club and I’m sure Stephen could do well,” said Frank Trimboli. “We have received several offers after the World Cup and Roma have also asked for information.

“Fenerbahce are very happy with Stephen’s work and have not shown any interest in selling, but in football you never know.”

The Turkish outfit may have lost further interest in a transfer after Appiah’s performance on Thursday in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

The Ghanaian player scored the first goal in Fenerbahce’s easy 4-0 win against B36 Torshavn.

Diarra has also been the subject of much speculation and is being courted by Roma, as well as Turkish champions Galatasaray.

The 25-year-old French international is currently contracted to Lens and has confirmed that both clubs have contacted his agent.

“I am studying both alternatives, but I admit I would prefer Roma,” said the international to the Press.

“The negotiations are still ongoing and I know it may take some time as there was the World Cup and all the trouble in Italian football.”

Roma are expected to offer Diarra a five-year contract and Lens could let the World Cup finalist leave for £4.1m.
-----------------------------------

great news. diarra is definitely needed. losing both dacourt and tommasi left a huge void in the DM spot. he would fit in nicely.

glad to see vucinic is also close. we really need a proven striker, like him, in serie a.

If we will get those players we can rock whole Serie A :rockman:

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has expressed his satisfaction with Mido following his return to the club.

Mido returned to the Italian capital after an 18-month loan spell at Tottenham.

The Egyptian was expected to make his move to Tottenham permanent, but the White Hart Lane decided against signing Mido.

Blackburn Rovers have been linked with Mido, but it appears they have shelved their interest in the player after signing Benni McCarthy from Porto.

Spalletti has been impressed by Mido in training and has hinted he could play a part in his plans for the new season.

"He's a motivated player," said Spalletti. "He must only settle down.

"We will try to give him a different preparation to allow him to enter the group.

"I've seen him playing few times and he's physically good and also he's good at heading."

Good to hear that Spalletti is satisfied with Mido's attitude on the trainings :)

Pizarro Agent Issues Roma Plea
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The time has arrived for Roma to make a bid for Inter midfielder David Pizarro, the Chilean’s agent has stated.

Pizarro has expressed his availability to move to Rome, especially after Inter signed Patrick Vieira from Juventus this week, and Fernando Hidalgo has urged the Giallorossi to take the first step.

“If Roma want Pizarro then they need to speak to Inter and make a bid for the player,” stated Hidalgo. “But this has not happened yet.”

The 27-year-old is unhappy with the limited amount of playing time he was handed last season and has threatened to quit the San Siro outfit.

Pizarro is valued at £7m, the same amount paid to Udinese for him in 2005, but Inter may also consider asking the Stadio Olimpico outfit for the services of Amantino Mancini too in a possible swap deal.

However, negotiations may prove to be problematic given the fact that Roma are now considered as Inter’s direct opponents for the Scudetto this term following the Calciopoli verdicts.

Furthermore, Inter boss Roberto Mancini has been testing several formations in pre-season, including a 3-5-2 system which may allow Pizarro to play more frequently than in the past.

Pizarro is understood to have been specifically requested by Giallorossi Coach Luciano Spalletti, who is eager to have the player at his disposal again following their time together in Udine.

The South American, who is contracted to Inter until 2009, arrived in Milan after five seasons with Udinese and played 24 Serie A matches with the 2006 Campioni d’Italia.

He's also been linked with a move to Palermo.
-----------------------------------------------------

Ambitious Spalletti snubs Vucinic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luciano Spalletti believes his Roma side will be Scudetto contenders in 2006-07, but insists he has no need for Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic.

The Giallorossi are being tipped as possible Serie A winners following the Calciopoli verdicts, but the Coach knows they will still face some stiff opposition.

“Roma and Inter have a good chance of succeeding, but I wouldn’t exclude Milan,” said Spalletti on Friday afternoon.

“Even if the Rossoneri will start with an eight-point deduction which is severe, I still consider them dangerous rivals, we must remain realistic,” added the 47-year-old tactician.

The capital club will undoubtedly need strengthening this summer to make a suitable challenge, but the linked Vucinic is seemingly no longer on his way to Rome.

“Vucinic’s transfer would not be useful for the team,” Spalletti surprisingly revealed. “It would be useless.

“I don’t see the sense in buying another striker. We already have Vincenzo Montella, Francesco Totti, Ahmed Mido, Stefano Okaka and Shabani Nonda, so another name would just be too much.”

The Tuscan boss instead believes the midfield needs to be strengthened and reiterated his desire for Inter midfielder David Pizarro – a playmaker he bossed at Udinese.

“Pizarro is an excellent player, an asset for the team he plays with, but we will need two or three new players to become more competitive,” he warned.

The Tuscan is also looking forward to the prospect of playing in the Champions League, even if he realises that his side have benefited from the expulsion of Juventus and Fiorentina.

“I feel sorry for Fiorentina,” he stated. “Coach Cesare Prandelli and his team earned a place in the Champions League on the pitch, but I am happy for us because we showed last term that we can play good football.”

Meanwhile, Roma will play Hamburg in a summer friendly on Friday in view of their official debut on August 26 in the Italian Super Cup Final against Inter.

Roma must do something to get those two players. Now we have much bigger chances to buy Pizarro because Vieira came to Inter and I'm sure Pizarro doesn't want be only reserve. Maybe if we will be so lucky we can bring Diarra or someone else. :ewan:

Doni is good enough to play in first squad. Besides we have promising keeper Pipolo. But now priorities are offensive players because we must build strong team.

we have doni, who we resigned this offseason and had an impressive campaign last season. we have under 21 keeper curci who i personally love and think is our future and pipolo who i think will be loaned out in the near future.

David Pizarro's agent insists the Internazionale midfielder is not close to joining Serie A rivals Roma.

The Chile international has been linked with a switch to Stadio Olimpico, with reports suggesting a deal was near to completion.

But Pizarro's representative Fernando Hidalgo has dismissed rumours that a move to the Italian capital is imminent.

"There has never been any negotiation because Roma never made us offers," Hidalgo told Radio Radio.

"About his move, it has only been spoken about in the papers.

"Roma never asked me about Pizarro. I frequently meet Inter officials Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriale and there have never been negotiations about him."

Hidalgo, though, refused to rule out a transfer to Roma, should the Giallorossi make a bid for the midfielder.

He added: "I'd like Pizarro's move to Roma. There is a coach there - Spalletti - who knows him.

"I can push for a sale, but if there isn't a club that wants him..."

Perrotta Set to Extend
--------------------------------------------------
Scudetto chasing Simone Perrotta has revealed he is on the verge of extending his Roma contract until 2010.

“I met with the club officials and we finalised an agreement that we had already discussed before the World Cup,” said the 29-year-old player.

“There was no problem from an economic point of view, so it was an easy discussion,” he continued.

The Italian World Cup winner has now returned to training with his teammates and is eager for the Azzurri enthusiasm of the summer to boost their campaign.

“I would really like to end the new season with a repeat of the World Cup party at the Circo Massimo to celebrate the title, but I know this will not be an easy task,” said the England-born midfielder.

“Inter and Milan have more players than us at their disposal and the season will be intense with Serie A and the Champions League.

“However, I believe that Roma will now make its move on the transfer market to strengthen their side.

“We need new signings to guarantee that everyone can rest, we cannot afford to leave key players at home because they have played too many matches.

“The Champions League does not allow for this kind of attitude.”

The Roman has also spoken to boss Luciano Spalletti about his role this term and urged the tactician to use him as an offensive midfielder rather than a defensive one.

Perrotta, signed from Chievo in 2004, has played a total of 65 Serie A matches with the Giallorossi and has netted eight goals to date.
--------------------------------------------------

and...

We need new faces, says Panucci
-----------------------------------------------------
Christian Panucci has warned Roma that they need to buy this summer in order to compete with Inter and Milan in the Scudetto chase.

The 33-year-old agrees with captain Francesco Totti and believes Roma must make a couple of high profile signings if they are to be title contenders in 2006-07.

“In my opinion Inter are in a better position than Roma, at least for the time being,” said Panucci in an interview with Sky Italia.

“I also think that Milan are now stronger than we are despite the fact that they will start with an eight-point deduction, which is severe,” added the former Real Madrid man.

Panucci is hoping that his Giallorossi side will fight until the end for the top positions in Serie A, but does not hide the fact that they are still missing a few men in key areas.

“As a player, I hope that the team will grow stronger and stronger and challenge for honours in the next campaign,” he added.

“The truth is that we are growing, but I do hope that the club will follow our Coach’s suggestions and will use the time left for summer transfers to find what we need.”

Panucci’s words come just a week after a similar statement from Totti who is thought to have angered chief Rosella Sensi with his requests for reinforcements.

“We need a few top level purchases,” the No 10 told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

“The team requires new faces as it’s going to be an intense season with the Serie A and the Champions League.”

Boss Luciano Spalletti is looking to strengthen his midfield options and has submitted a list of players he believes would do the job, including Inter’s David Pizarro and Alou Diarra of Lens.

Roma will make their official debut on August 26 in the Italian Super Cup Final against the 2006 Italian champions Inter.
-----------------------------------------------------

finally....

Roma ponder Cam swoop
-----------------------------------------------
Roma are considering a move for Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi after negotiations for Chievo’s Franco Semioli stalled.

The World Cup winner has made no secret of his intention to leave the Bianconeri after their demotion to Serie B and Juventus may be forced into a sale.

However, the Turin giants expect something close to £7m for the Argentine-born Azzurri international after already snubbing a £4.2m offer from Lyon.

Nevertheless, Juve have been paired with Roma defender Samuel Kuffour and the Old Lady may include Camoranesi in any proposed deal.

The capital outfit plan on netting at least £1.4m for the Ghanaian international, who is currently contracted until 2008, and may agree to his transfer in part exchange for the winger.

Camoranesi would probably accept the move given that Roma will be playing in the Champions League this season and are considered as Scudetto contenders.

Camoranesi joined Juve in 2002, making 92 appearances for the Old Lady, and has also attracted interest from Villarreal, Bayern Munich, Valencia and Inter.

The capital giants are also being associated with Udinese attacker Antonio Di Natale on Wednesday afternoon.

The former Empoli attacker is a favourite of Roma boss Luciano Spalletti after their time together in Udine.
-----------------------------------------------

great news on perrotta. he has been immense. with camoranesi, he would fit but we already have enough wingers. we have other areas of need.

first totti, now panucci, the two leaders of this team come out and say we need a little more depth. maybe we should look into that. we really do need another CM, or DM. i hope we eventually pick up diarra or pizarro, although the latter is looking less likely.

I had read some Roma's transfer plans. As you know Spalletti said he need a midfielder so he's going to watch tomorrow's match between Betis and Levate and watch Joaquin. After the game he's gonna talk with management from Betis. They also talk about a return of Assuncao to Roma.

Maybe it's just a rumour but I want share this with you. Betis wants for Joaquin 25 mln euro. If we will have luck they reduce price but surely they will want one of the Roma players. :ewan:

edit:

Yeah, great news about Perrotta. We must hold the skeleton of the team if we're looking forward CL. Hopefully that first trophy which we are going to win in this season will be Italian Super Cup.

Egyptian star Mido claims Roma have received a couple of offers for his services, but are not looking to let him leave the Eternal City.

Mido returned to Rome this summer following an impressive loan spell at Tottenham and immediately caught the eye of a number of clubs - notably Blackburn.

Rovers have since signed Benni McCarthy, but Mido feels there are clubs still on his trail.

"I know that Roma have two or three offers for me," Mido told Sky Sports News. "It is good money and the club needs money at the moment to buy other players, but at the moment the manager and the board said I am not on the transfer list and that I cannot leave."

Mido was disappointed not to secure a permanent move to Spurs, but would gladly return if an offer came his way.

"I enjoyed my time at Tottenham, I made a lot of friends and if the day came for me to go back I would be very proud," the former Ajax man declared.

Friendly Report: Valencia 2-0 Roma

The Mestalla surrendered to a mesmerising display from David Silva, as Valencia ran out 2-0 winners over nine men Roma in a pre-season friendly. A first half goal from Silva gave Los Ches the lead, and a late strike from skipper David Albelda sealed their win.

Coach Quique Sanchez Flores had gone into the match with a view towards giving his first team regulars some more time on the pitch, as well as checking on the form of new arrivals.

The results, however, could not have been more pleasing, as Los Ches controlled and dominated Roma, only days after being beaten by minnows Austria Vienna in a Champions League qualifier.

If anything, the 2-0 scoreline could have been even worse for the Romans, but Luciano Spalletti's charges were saved by a brilliant display from stopper Doni, who kept pulling rabbits out of the hat.

However, the match was all about David Silva, just back from an impressive loan spell with Celta Vigo. He had the stadium applauding his every touch, before coming off to a standing ovation.

First Half

Valencia came out of the blocks better, and were immediately dangerous through David Villa and Fernando Morientes. Roma hit back with a couple of half-chances themselves, through Mancini and Mido, with Ludovic Butelle having to pluck one out of thin air to deny the Egyptian intiernational from firing the visitors into the lead.

By now, David Silva was combining with Vicente and David Villa as if they had been playing together for years, and it was the same combination that gave Valencia the lead in the 40th minute. Vicente provided a perfect pass, Villa steped over it neatly, and Silva came charging in to fire it past Doni.

Valencia were in command and Roma needed something special! But it got even worse for the Galliorosi, as Aleandro Rosi was sent off just before the break, for a late foul on Vicente as he broke clear.

Second Half

Flores brought on skipper Albelda for David Navarro after the break, with Marchena moving into the centre of the defense, while Vicente was also rested to give former Getafe winger Gavilan a chance. Meanwhile, Spalletti had to take off skipper Totti to reinforce the weakened midfield, with Perotta coming on as Roma switched to 4-4-1.

The balance of power had titled irreversibly in Valencia's favour. The numerical disadvantage proved too much for Roma to handle in the second half. While they managed to defend tight and keep the scorboard from ticking, there was no doubting who were running the show.

The mountain that lay ahead became insurmountable for the Galliorosi in the 68th minute, as Perotta was sent off after picking up two bookings in under 25 minutes on the pitch. Roma had their backs to the wall, and it was only a matter of time before Valencia scored again. The win was sealed with a precise header from skipper Albelda in the 85th minute.

The match quietened after that, and the post-match environment was surprisingly friendly, as Roma chose to be gracious in defeat despite having had two men sent off.

Valencia will know that if they can produce the same form in ten days' time against Austria Vienna, there will be little to stop them from booking a place in the group stages of the Champions League.

Roma, who are already into the group stages of the premier European competition, have plenty of work to do in the meantime. Spaletti's charges fought very bravely to limit the damage in the second half, but were a far cry from their best in the first as well.

Valencia CF:

Starting XI: Butelle - Curro Torres, David Navarro, Raul Albiol, Moretti - David Silva, Marchena, Edu, Vicente - Villa, Morientes.

Substitutes Used: Regueiro (Villa, 73'), Angulo (Morientes, 56'), Gavilan (Vicente, 46'), David Albelda (David Navarro, 46'), Jorge López, (Silva, 68'), Pallardó (Edu, 88'), Carra (Curro Torres, 86')

AS Roma:

Starting XI: Doni - Panucci, Cassetti, Chivu, Tonetto- De Rossi, Aquilani, Rosi, Mancini - Totti, Mido.

Substitutes Used: Osaka (Tonetto, 85'), Álvarez (Chivu, 59'), Ferrari (De Rossi, 59'), Faty (Aquilani, 59'), Fonda (Mido, 66'), Perrotta (Totti, 46').

Goals: Silva'40 i Albelda'85

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friendlies are not so important but I would like seeing our team winning. Oh well, we must wait on Italian Super Cup final and I'm sure we'll show our class.
