Samuel Kuffour is hoping to seal a move from Roma before the August transfer deadline, with Tottenham and Portsmouth mooted suitors.

Kuffour appears to have no future in the Italian capital after being omitted from the Giallorossi's pre-season reckoning.

And, with coach Luciano Spalletti publicly giving the green light to the player's transfer, the Ghanaian international is actively pursuing a switch.

"We are trying to find a new destination for Kuffour," said the former Bayern Munich star's agent Oscar Damiani.

Salvation for Kuffour may come in the form of Premiership duo Tottenham and Portsmouth.

Pompey have long been in the market for another central defender, in spite of the signing of Sol Campbell, while Spurs boss Martin Jol has also identified the area as requiring squad strengthening.

I'd like to keep him but surely he will spend most of time on the bench. We can not disturb him if he wants change club :crazyboy:

I agree, "Sami" is a great defender but Spalletti doesn't want him for the next season, it's right Sami Kuffour looks for another team, the best for Roma is in selling him in England cause we can get more money and then have not troubles to sign Esposito.
I still hope to find a new team for Shabani Nonda..... :alex:

Roma to sell now, buy later Wednesday 23 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma are in need of cash to finalise their summer signings with Samuel Kuffour, Ahmed Mido and Shabani Nonda possibly on their way out of the club.

The Giallorossi have eyed Mauro Esposito of Cagliari, Chievo’s Franco Semioli and Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic, but the outfit will be forced to sell first if they want to please Coach Luciano Spalletti.

Kuffour seems keen on leaving Roma and has been paired with Tottenham, Portsmouth, Bolton, Schalke 04, Hamburg and Juventus.

However, the central defender’s agent Oscar Damiani has been forced to admit that there are no concrete negotiations underway.

The main obstacle seems to be the Ghana defender’s current wage of £2.8m plus image rights, a sum that has put off many interested parties.

That may force Roma to sell a striker with one from Mido or Nonda being sacrificed before the window closes.

Reports suggest that the Egyptian forward could return to Tottenham after having played the last two seasons for Spurs on loan.

“When I returned to Roma this year I wasn’t sure I would have liked to stay, but I found a very different environment from the one I had left,” Mido stated in the past weeks.

“I would like to stay here, but I know there have been some offers and if the club deems it necessary to sell me, I would much enjoy returning to Tottenham.”

The Congo-born Nonda was wanted by Turkish side Fenerbahce at the end of July, but declined his interest in moving and has not received any further offer since then.

The Giallorossi are in need of cash to invest after finalising David Pizarro’s £4.7m move from Inter as he signed a four-year contract worth £1.2m per season.

****, I was pretty sure that Mido will stay with us and help with scoring goals. Honestly I don't care what will happen with Nonda and Sammi because I have never seen a place in starter 11 for them. But now loss of Mido would be really bad. He could be one of the most important players in upcoming season. Why we don't sell young guys which will not find a place in the team. Also young player can go on loan to other clubs and get experiences and improve themselves. Surely they will useful for Roma in near future. :read:

Snubbed Diarra joins Lyon Monday 21 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reports in France suggest that Alou Diarra of Lens will move to Lyon after a proposed move to Roma collapsed.

The French international is set to sign a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions, replacing his namesake Mahamadou Diarra who moved to Real Madrid, with Lens netting something around £5m.

The midfielder was one of the names on Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti’s wish-list and an agreement had been reached with the Italian club.

However, the negotiations then suddenly stalled because of the Giallorossi’s interest in David Pizarro.

The Chilean finally completed his move from Inter on Saturday after lengthy discussions leaving Diarra to consider his other options.

The World Cup finalist, who was also eyed by Marseille, had scored four goals in 66 League matches over the last two seasons for Lens.

Unfortunately it's officially (:/) Maybe we will seek for someone else in the midfield?! Damned Lyon :crazyboy:

we need to sell/loan kuffour and nonda.

getting rid of mido would be a mistake, only if we immediately had a deal in place for vucinic.

i don't like the idea of getting rid of mido at this point because he figures to play a large part this season and will see lots of playing time. if we were to sell/loan him out, whoever we bring in would take time to settle in, with only 2 weeks till the start of the season.

That's not a bad draw for us but could be better

I'm really afraid about Valencia because they beat us in the last weeks. Shakhar and Olympiacos are in our range. (Y)

“It isn’t easy leaving a team like Inter. Above all, if one has a family you have to think of them before yourself. Mancini told me he could make room for me in the squad but after I spoke to Roma’s management, I understood how much this team really wanted me to be here. Roma is an important club and this is a new challenge that I wanted for myself. We have to absolutely do well in both the Italian league and in CL because this is an important club.

At Inter, there wasn’t much room for me and I have the good fortune of having a chance with an important team like Roma. Pirlo has demonstrated the importance of that role in football today. At this time, Inter is part of the past and I have to think now of Roma. I have to enter into this squad with humility and with team spirit like I’ve seen with Roma in the past season.

As for Saturday, Inter are the favorites but the better team on the pitch that day will win. Mancini and Spalletti are different, they are two coaches that love to play football. Roberto prefers the 4-4-2 while Spalletti adapts his formation to the group.

I like that when I am spoken of, people mention Chile. There is even talk of a possible derby with Jimenz that is of great interest to my country. Spalletti calls me Peq, short for pequeno (means small person/tiny).

I have spoken mostly with Cufre who speaks Spanish and with De Rossi who is always joking around. There is a great changing/dressing room here and I am fitting in very well. I have already spoken with Totti through Materazzi and he is very nice. I want to respect my fellow teammates, therefore, I will not ask for the number 8 that belongs to Aquilani. Maybe I’ll take 17 because 1+7=8 and also because, after Tommasi, this is an important shirt/number.

Pizarro seems be a nice guy, hopefully he's also good on the pitch as everybody says. And I like that he does not attach importance to number on shirt in which he plays. (Y)

best draw we could have asked for. all of these teams are beatable. and once we get into season form, i am confident we will win.

atleast we didn't draw madrid in the 1st stage like we always seem to do.

just on the transfer front, i still think we will need another player, hopefully with CL experience, in the squad.

Pizarro eyes Super debut Friday 25 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Pizarro is hoping to be fit enough to make his Roma debut in Saturday’s Italian Super Cup Final against former club Inter.

The Chilean midfielder joined the Giallorossi last Saturday and is aiming to shrug off a minor injury ahead of tomorrow’s San Siro showdown.

“I am trying to recover, but in any case I believe this game should be played by those who deserved the Super Cup,” said Pizarro.

“It wasn’t easy to leave Inter, especially considering I have a family,” said the midfielder, who moved to the capital city club in a £4m co-ownership deal.

“The Nerazzurri are a stronger team, but Roma are also a good side and I am glad I have the opportunity of facing this new challenge.

“I didn’t have much chance of playing at Inter and when you realise that you need to make a choice, more than ever if you are 27-years-old.”

Pizarro seems to have left Inter behind him even if he doesn’t rule out the possibility of returning to the Giuseppe Meazza boys.

“In football you never know what can happen,” noted the South American. “We will see what the future holds.”

Pizarro has now been reunited with Coach Luciano Spalletti, who had him in his Udinese side from 2003 to 2005, when the Zebrette earned an historical qualification to the Champions League preliminary round.

Do you guys think he will start the match in starter 11? I'm just wondering how he will behave if he get this chance. He wants show Inter that they should keep him because his really valuable player, that's for sure.

Would be great if we start the season through winning this cup. Morale of team would raise, all players would feel that they are able to win Scudetto and fight in CL. (Y)

I think its a tricky CL-group. Valencia and Roma are slighty better, but I would not underestimate Olympiacos nor shaktar. Doing that, would be a big mistake. But I am sure, we can pass to the second round.

i dont think pizarro will start on saturday. he hasn't been with the team long enough and his fitness is questionable, although he did have regular training with inter. these are the games that players love to play though because they have lots to prove to their former team. i would like to see him come in 2nd half.

probable starting line-up:

Doni
Panucci---Mexes---Chivu---Cufre
De Rossi---Perrotta
Taddei---Totti---Mancini
Mido

who knows, montella could start instead of mido. but the rest is the line-up that is familiar from last year. especially since we are playing inter, best to have a line-up that has had lots of experience against them. and honestly, until pizarro finds his place, this is our best line-up.

this is also a great test for the upcoming season, being that inter are a direct rival for the scudetto and who knows in the CL. let's start the season off on the right foot.

We have awesome midfield formation, we should use it in our confrontation with Inter. There's three WC champions, of course if we include Totti (Y) Great wingers like Mancini and Taddei, stunning defense with MExes and Chivu ahead. No one can stop us then :bouncy:

I know Spalletti, he will use Totti as central striker, maybe Aquilani replaces Perrotta in midfield and Perrotta plays attacking midfielder:
----------------DONI----
PANUCCI---MEXES---CHIVU---CUFRE'
------DE ROSSI------AQUILANI
TADDEI-------PERROTTA-----MANCINI
---------------TOTTI-----------

yeah, spalletti used that alot last year to tremendous success when all of our strikers were injured. and to tell you the truth i am all about using this system again.

when pizarro is ready, which will be soon, he could play in that CAM place or even in the more withdrawn DM position and create from deep. but since, atm, we have all of our strikers healthy, totti will return to his normal position just playing off the striker.
