I'd buy the Radeon, better image quality and more features.
The 9000 Pro is a bit faster (clockspeeds) than the regular 9000.

Stay away from a GF4 MX, it's just a beefed up GF2 actually, the chipset is totally different from a real GF4. (No Dx8 compliance, less shaders, etc..)
But keeping in mind what a Radeon 9000 Pro costs, you could get a GF4 Ti 4200 for that money.
That's the best card IMO value for money wise.

Here in Holland a Radeon 9000 Pro is around 140-150 Euro and a Ti4200 64 MB comes at 150-160 Euro.
But maybe it's different where you live.

That's partly true but lots of people still have problems with the 8500.
Just too much driver issues IMO.
I'd stay away from it if you want to play safe.

do yourself a favor and dont get a geforce4mx,it doesnt even fully support DX8..its just a beefed up geforce2,noone wants 1999 technology right? ;) .. get a Geforce3 Ti 200/500 or a radeon 8500 128mb,or even a geforce4 Ti 4200 which is the best of the under $200 cards..

p.s.

My card is GF4 Ti not mx....not sure about the difference but i imagine its quite a lot......anyways its all up to you and your budget but if you can stretch to it wait a month or so and buy a GF5 card, I think its called the NV30 or something like that.........

Save up your cash for a few more months and buy the Geforce FX when it hits shelves in Febuary 2003 :D

I guess if you are looking for a good card for money and do not wanted to be held down by driver problems, then a GeForce3Ti 500 will be a solid choice It performs better than a Geforce3Ti200 and a GeForce4MXin all categories and does better than a Ti4200 in some aspects. Note I said some aspects and I am not talking with regards to a ti4600.

I still stand to be corrected

Peace

when you switch from Nvidia to Ati or any other company to a different manufacturer
or
install new hardware you should always re-format.

if you don't, you'll have a driver conflict, thats what creates "driver problems."

ATi's new catalyst drivers are solid. ATi doesn't have "driver issues" anymore (like they had when it first came out). ;) it wasn't even that bad to begin with.

another question:

Is the Radeon 9000 going to be a HUGE increase in performance and graphics from my current GeForce2 MX200 32MB SDRAM card?

When I look at the price lists of a local computer shop, the MX200 is now prices at about £40, whilst the Radeon 9000, TV is priced at £88, and the 8500 LE at £132.

Are the LE cards better than the TV cards? i dont have a clue what the difference is, but i can tell you that i already have a TV card in my system...ok big help.

Oh, and by the way, i won't be buying the card until after christams - when I get some money!! (hehe - always helps, lol)

And about the new GeforceFX - is this a new graphics card on its own, because i thought it was a new processor capable of DDR2 or something???!!! This will be very expensive i guess??

I think i'll wait for the january sales............................

....................................god this is a long wait, dammit...................................................................please answer.

Of course you should reinstall when you change graphics cards.
But i've been working in computer hardware for some years now and trust me, R8500 cards have lots of more driver issues compared to nVidia products.
The R9000 series however are solid too when it comes to drivers.

The difference you'll see depends on the rest of your system.
On a 1 Ghz computer or more with at least 512 MB Ram, you'll see a big increase in performance.
Otherwise, the graphicscard is probably not the bottleneck and the CPU, Memory or Motherboard are simply holding the system back.

The Geforce FX is actually the GeForce 5, the name is really confusing.
It will be really expensive yes. $400/450 Euro at least is my guess.

Wait until Januari and see what the prices are and what you can afford.
Again the best value for money is without doubt the Ti4200. You can't go wrong with it. It has stable drivers, is supported by all games, is Dx8 compliant.
I feel the Radeon 9000 Pro is a bit too expensive for what it offers. And in quite a few applications it's slower than a 8500 due to it's chip-architecture.
As some people have pointed out, a Geforce 3 Ti500 is also a very good option. Almost as fast as a Ti4200 and a bit cheaper.

Radeon 9000

i am going to buy my ATI radeon 2000 from ebuyer.com as they have them for £58 (MEGA BARGAIN)!!!:D i am realy looking forward to it. Nvidia probably have the best cards in terms of versitality but the ATI cards will always be superior in other areas like picture quality and DV playback. i know that the DVD playback is not such a big issue in this case but its a good thing to have. this graphics card also has a TV out port and cables so u can hook it up to ur TV and play games and watch movies throught the DVD on ur computer if u have one. I do all of my shopping through Ebuyer because everthing is just SO cheap!!!
