Awesome Soccer Released!

Awesome Soccer is now complete and has been released!

You may remember me posting recently about "Awesome Soccer" - a modern day homage to the legendary Kick Off 2 and Sensible Soccer. Here's a few screen shots as a reminder:

My aim was to retain all of the things that made Kick Off 2 and Sensible Soccer great - ie fantastic gameplay, but to (hopefully) add some modern sheen and polish, and to incorporate the new features that we've been become accustomed to within the genre through games like ProEvo/Winning 11 and FIFA Soccer.

Well, after help from people here on the forum with the alpha and beta testing, I am pleased to announce that the game is now complete and has been released.

You can download the game from:

Windows: http://www.red27studios.com/download_windows.php

Mac: http://www.red27studios.com/download_apple.php

Linux: http://www.red27studios.com/download_linux.php

For those you that are interested, you can find out more about the game at the website http://www.red27studios.com, or you can read the blog. You can also join the mailing list if you wish.

Thanks,

Peter (Red27).

He's got a free demo and a full version that costs mullah.

Great effort in making your own football simulation game, Kudos! (Y)

Just thought I'd post a quick update about the game....it's been doing pretty well, and I've recently reached the 50,000 download milestone!

It was also reviewed in the March Edition of Four-Four-Two Magazine, and they had this to say:

“Better than many Sensi clones”
“Cheap and Charming”
“Another Sensible option”

Let me just say, it's far from perfect - I definitely see this as the start of the journey for Awesome Soccer - but it really is a quick and fun alternative to the Fifa's and Pro Evo's of this world, perfect for when you just need a goalscoring fest!

But I'm certainly not resting on any laurels either...I'm actively working on the next version which will have some MAJOR new features and improvements.....so stay tuned! ;-)

Very impressive that you got the game to work on 3 different platforms.
I'm just curious how your different platforms are doing. Would you say Windows is your biggest customer base? Was it worth doing the game for Linux?

Ok - in the spirit of this website, I'll share some inside information! :innocent_smile_1:

Mac is - sales wise - the largest customer base (which surprised me a great deal actually) but that is perhaps driven by the game being on Apple.com.

Windows accounts for a large amount of downloads, but the "conversion ratio" (i.e number of people that download the demo before a sale is made) is a lot lower than Mac.

Linux is similar - lots of downloads, but a much lower conversion rate. It's also quite difficult to support, due to the myriad of different Linux distributions. However, it wasn't a major piece of work to produce the Linux version, so it was good to be able to make the title available for the platform.

Incidentally, I had an issue with the Windows version prior to v1.2 - it was to do with the Keyboard not registering two cursor keys and the space bar being pressed together (in 2 diagonal combinations) on certain keyboards (laptops especially) - which frustratingly prevented proper control within the game. Happily, this doesn't affect the Mac, or Windows systems using external keyboards (which I developed on!), so the issue unfortunately remained until quite recently - although it's resolved now I hasten to add - but that may have negatively affected the Windows conversion rates.

...so final word for anyone that played the Windows Version and had keyboard related problems - re-download and it will be fine..... (Y)
