Baía is the greatest ever!

Well, maybe not the greatest ever, but, after winning yesterday's Portuguese SuperCup he became the footballer in history with more titles!

Baía collected his 26th title in another Porto win over Benfica, surpassing 2 football legends: Pelé and Frank Rijkaard, both with 25 titles under their belts.

Baía is the only portuguese player to have won all european club titles: the extinct Cup Winners Cup for Barcelona and the UEFA Cup and Champions League for FC Porto. Add to that his UEFA nomination as best european goalkeeper of last season and you got a kickass season for the veteran. ;)

He's a good guy and I'm happy for the man. I've met him in person for the first time when he was 19 years old, back in my high school, and thought he had the patience of a saint for signing autographs for 3 straight hours. Besides, he gets on ManU fans' nerves, so what else could you ask? :p

And now he has the opportunity of winning one more trophy next week, let's hope so... :p :D Baía the best portuguese GK of all-time and one of the best in the world! (H)

Would I be the greatest keeper in the world if I just stood in goal for a championship winning team?
Hmm.

I totally agree with u, Ricardo is an overrated GK, he's what i call a "marketing product", only some press and Scolari can consider him the best GK in Portugal but thanks to that we lost the Euro 2004 final like u said, that goal was one of the most ridiculous i've seen in football... :kader:

yeah, I can agree Ricardo sucks, he has no presence in the area and doesn't command the defence..

That's exactly what i think of him... ;) and that it's all that Baía have! (H)

You should look back at the reasons why Baia isn't in Ricardo's place as he should in the first place, not just because of the pressure from the FA, but because Baia tends to make ridiculous mistakes in crucial moments.

Baia has almost always had a good defence in front of him that's why he won so much. He's not a world class keeper, just a very good one, but still the best we got unfortunately. Although he made that great save against Giuly in the CL final, and with the great defence he had last year, I still can think of games in the CL where he f*cked up largely (against Real Madrid for instance).

that's one thing Baia and Ricardo do have in common, both make hilarious frangos from time to time..

Even the great Gk's(Kahn for example) make some "frangos" sometimes, that happens even to the best players, the fact is with ricardo happens more... ;)

I think all the keepers make their frangalhadas here and there, but it seems that some are really lucky and their mistakes don't result in goals - which makes all the difference in our perception.
I remember poor Kralj (that barrete Porto bought after Euro2000); every mistake he ever made in his Porto years always resulted in goals...

Im not really a big fan of him but i have to agree that he is one of the most important goalkeepers in the portuguese football history.
Altough i prefer Ricardo, i must say that the way he dealt with the fact of not being picked for the euro after being the best european goalkeeper of the year, deserves my respect. He wasn´t picked but didn´t badmouth our Nt and he still went to the stadium to support his friends. He was a victim of our media. If it wasn´t for that fuss about his call up provoked by our medias maybe he could have been picked. You know how Scolari works. The more you demand the less you get...
