Ball heading tips

I am new to FIFA 10 world, got it few days ago from local Walmart store. I am looking for some tips on how to head the ball correctly. I always miss the headers and score rarely. I know it's all about correct timing. Please pass on some tips and tricks from your own experience.

nice to know you alicefred. i've been playing fifa10 for almost a year. i bought one week after it released but i never found heading tips. you just have to practice, practice and practice... cheers....

Successful ball heading is a result of well timed player switches during opponent crosses into the box. When you have a control of a player and have a line to a cross or pass heading toward his head, simply press a face button. If you press the pass button, he'll do one type of header, if you press the cross button, he'll do another type of header, if you press the shoot button, he'll do a more direct header. You can aim where you head the ball to by holding a direction on the left analog stick. If you are defending a corner or a deep opponent cross, make sure to switch player and quickly try to jostle to get between your opponent player and the ball to head the ball away from danger.

I will add 3 tips more, 'cause timming is the most important thing, but must consider:

-when attacking, you have more chance of sucess if you cross the ball without a tight mark, and just releasing the run button, the player will have more control to cross.

-when defending, take position with the defender, not just wait to the ball and head, go with your defender to where the ball falls and there you must attemp the header.

-It's also important the hability for the player to jump and header, will have more chances to score Crouch or Palermo than Rooney or Tevez.
Same on defense, i always use DF with good habilities on this, cause most of my rivales just runs and cross, so playing with Spain x example, i use Puyol and Ramos as DF, both defends great the header, both are great markers, and Ramos compensates the slow speed of Puyol.

positioning is very important and i tend to double tap B when i take my headers. also, i find heading/shooting on manual is easier
