A while ago I borrowed the DVD box set of my sister boyfriend's dad but never got round to watching it until last night (watched the first 2 episodes). I had seen a few bits of it when it was on TV.

WOW! It's so real, so well acted (funny to see David Schwimmer in a serious role, it's hard to figure him not being Ross) and it's beautifully filmed, the choreography, the lighting especially.

Highly recommend this. It's produced by Tom Hanks & Steven Spielberg and it has an episode written and directed by Tom Hanks.

Anyone else seen it?

this is probably the best miniseries ever I could say.
so many characters and great stories. and wait until you get to the last 3 episodes.
number 9 (called "Why we Fight") is a masterpiece (Y)(Y)(Y)

I watched this when it was on TV and really, really liked it. Some episodes are alot better than others, but all in all it's one of the best TV non-comedy series' I have seen in a long long while. The character Bull Raterman (sp??) is such an awesome creation, and the actor who playes him does it so well.

Aren't the first two episodes directed by Spielburg?

great serie, i got the DVD-set too

On the box it says Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks present it.. but it nowhere says that spielberg actually directed any episode

My favourite of the brothers is Guarnere, he's just so cool (H)

An excellent series, eventhough Ive only seen a sporadic half of it. Someone once said to me it was like watching a 12 hour version of Saving Private Ryan, and while that is true visually, i thought BoB was alot more gripping in some episodes than Pvt. Ryan. Loved the characters played by Damien Lewis of Maj. Winters (i was shocked when i later found out hes english) and Ron Livingston or Capt. Nixon. Even the most elitist military historians that ive talked to appreciate the series and that says alot. If I had 100 bucks lying around, id gladly go out and get the thing

In my opinion the acting and the story are both better than Saving Private Ryan, and the camerawork, effects and direction are equally good.

The guy on who's book the miniseries is based was proven to be a serial plagarizer.
That's alright because I expect 99% of the people who have seen the series neither know nor care who wrote the book :p

Thats Steven Ambrose if im not mistaken. Ive heard nothing about his plagarism, but I will look into it. Also, he died about a year ago now, and he did it as one of the premier authorities on US military history, uh, kinda. Hes like the authority to the average joe, like how Tom Clancy can be called an expert on modern military hardware because he expends a chapter describing the wiring in a bomb or something like that. Even people who were only vaguely familiar with military history, especially WWII find Ambrose kinda pedantic, but i guess all experts have to be when theyre on tv and such :S

Edit: heres what Vagegast was talking about: It was the third entry for his name on google :|
Why Ambrose Is a Vampire
Think the titles harshness reflects poorly now that hes dead

i heard about a next installment of band of brothers that would be played out in the pacific, altough i think this is just a cruel rumor. i have not heard about anything concrete about it. just some stories running around.

I've just sat through all the episodes in the series again.

Band of Brothers has set the standard for TV miniseries so high that I doubt any series on TV will ever come close to it again. Everything about it is so staggeringly real you could almost be mistaken for believing you were in Easy Company yourself!

Total brilliance.
