Ferguson returns to Ibrox
Monday January 31 2005
Barry Ferguson has rejoined Rangers from Blackburn on a five-and-a-half year contract.
The 26-year-old left Ibrox in August 2003 for Ewood Park but handed in a transfer request during the transfer window opening.
The Light Blues have paid a £4.5million fee for the Scotland international, a figure which will rise to £5million depending on appearances.
Documentation has been lodged with the Scottish Football Association registrations department.
Ferguson failed to settle in Lancashire but Rovers rejected three bids from Rangers for the player.
But a fee suitable to all parties was finally agreed and Ferguson has now re-signed for his boyhood heroes.
Ferguson was captain of the Glasgow giants when he expressed his desire to try his luck in the English Premiership on the eve of a crucial Champions League qualifier against FC Copenhagen in August 2003.
Former Gers boss Graeme Souness was quick to seize the opportunity to give Ferguson his chance and the player moved to Rovers in a £6.5million deal.
But, in December 2003, the midfielder broke his kneecap in a match at Newcastle and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The lure of a return to Scotland and Ibrox was eventually too strong for the player, who will be 27 on Wednesday.
