Best Albums of 2008

1. Fleet Foxes - "Fleet Foxes"

2. Elbow - "The Seldom Seen Kid"

3. Shearwater - "Rook"

Three albums that really stood out for me this year.

Elbow might be the most underrated indie rock band on the face of the planet - four solid albums and virtually no recognition. They're like a more accessible Radiohead or a more inventive Coldplay, and better than both in my humble opinion.

"Fleet Foxes" might be the most promising debut album since The Arcade Fire's "Funeral" in 2004.

Kings of Leon's new album got some good critics, and was voted the year's best album in UK, too. It really is something special, in my mind.

Also, The Ting Tings was a pleasent surprise, with their fresh sound, and up-beat songs. Great job by them, way to break through.

Portishead - Third

Sigur Rós - Með Suð í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust

dEUS - Vantage Point

The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath

Riding Pânico - Lady Cobra

Antidotes from Foals was probably the album of the year for me.
Also good were:
Fantasy Black Channel by Late Of The Pier
Oracular Spectacular by MGMT
Emergency by Pigeon Detectives
Intimacy by Bloc Party
Suicide Season by Bring Me The Horizon
Vampire Weekend by Vampire Weekend

EDIT: Oh and Sigur Ros are amazing.

Top 3 for me is:

1 - Girl Talk - Feed The Animals (the best thing I have ever heard in mash up since The Avalanches - Since I Met You)

2 - The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely (the first album was good, but this one is WOW!)

3 - Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend (great debut)

For the rest, Oasis delivered an awesome album as well. Portishead also came back in style. And don't forget The Ting Tings debut ;).

For me, the biggest disappointment of the year is Bloc Party - Intimacy. It's a good album, but not the Silent Alarm quality. And weaker than A Weekend In The City. I think Kele is wrecking the band without even knowing. Such an ass...

Wow, I totally forgot Consolers of the Lonely was 2008. It displaces Fleet Foxes as my #1 for the year.

I totally forgot one: The Script - The Script

It's maybe nothing special, but a very nice debut, simple rock, good songs.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Attack & Release by The Black Keys. The best modern day blues has to offer.
I went to see them back in May, when they performed here in Amsterdam. Pretty awesome gig that was... :)

Oh and as much as they've been overhyped I still think Coldplay deserves a spot in there aswell...

Mate I like Snow Patrol but that album was weak, Travis and Coldplay upped them but Pefect Symmetry by Keane has to be one of the best I've heard, amazing album.

Dirty Pretty Things had a nice album, and if you heard McFly's then it wasn't bad either.

Oh and I have to give a mention to Sons & Daughters, fantastic Scottish band that released an album called This Gift at the beginning of 2008, give it a listen if you like indie.
