Best FIFA of all time?

Whats everyone's best FIFA of all time and why? My personal favourite was FIFA 2002 as passes and lobs seemed much more realistic than ever. The general gameplay was great, menus user friendly and the creation centre! Would have been great if this game had a career mode. Yours?

it's your opinion !
I think the pass system was great in Fifa 2002. With the option to disable the auto pass in the big ini , it was really challenging .
I've never had so much fun as in 2002 playing N.Clubman's gameplay updates.
Since that time ,I don't like the passing anymore. It's too precise IMO.
Also it was the golden age for editing with the Fifa FX engine.
OK , I admit that the original AI was poor, too much repetitive with these long balls but one more time, Nick's updates made the game very enjoyable at least for me.
And the only reason I don't play it now is because my new computer don't let me play it anymore

1 Fifa 2002 ( patched with N.Clubman's gameplay )
2 Fifa 2004 ( very enjoyable IMO )
3 Fifa 2003
4 Fifa 2001

Best Ever FIFA Version ?

It seems to me that every 2nd incarnation of the series is a goodie and the inbetweenies invariably suck...

FIFA 2003 - The best ever in my opinion both for graphics and gameplay (assuming you have Sameer's patch installed)

FIFA 2002 - A complete turkey, the gameplay was pathetically slow and the passing mechanism unrealistic and frustrating. The ball seems to float around the pitch as if it were on water...

FIFA 2001 - The first real classic from EA Sports, the graphics took a massive leap forward in this version and the gameplay was superb.

FIFA 2000 - A con job, being just a cosmetic enhancement of what went before

FIFA 98 was the best of them, followed by World Cup 98 and FIFA 99.

Imo FIFA 97 was the best. Whit the curving system. Also the stadiums where more empty when you played against a weaker team or a team whit a lower ranking. So they had that future in 97 and now they announce it as a new future in 2004. You also had brilliant players like Brain Plank ect. Those where the EA members who made the game.

FIFA 98 RTWC was splendid as well because it had lots of options. Like a national team selection and a brilliant transfer system.

So EA makes the game worse the last years. Hope they will add lots of new futures. I have to say that the 2005 database looks good. So I hope to see some new futures and improved gameplauy.

In my opinion, the best FIFA are:

1. FIFA 98 because we were able to play loads of different game with a lot of teams (RTWC was the best idea in a football game ever).

2. FIFA 2003 for the graphics, menu and Creation Center (even if it didn't work for some people!).

So here is my TOP 5:

1. FIFA 98
2. FIFA 2003
3. FIFA 2000
4. FIFA 2002
5. FIFA 99

yes fifa 2001 was definetely the biggest leap forward in my opinion.

fifa 2002 introduced the player runs which is also very important addition.

but the best was fifa 2003, which refined everything to make a great game.

i like fifa 2004, but the fact its so easy to score from long range is just really bad. i can't change it cos i got it on gamecube. i think they made it so easy to score from long range cos they had made the defensive AI to hard to get passed so it was a last minute thing.

Gotta agree with everyone else, fifa 98 was the best game in the fifa series, the vast amount of countries that were available for selection, i remember winning the world cup with equatorial guinea, what a moment that was

FIFA 2002 wasn't that good because of the awkward crossing and shooting model, but once you installed a gameplay patch (ini.big), it was 10x better :)

FIFA 2003, proof that just because a game looks good doesn't necessarily mean it plays good - it was atrocious gameplay tbh.

Mos Def Fifa 98. I bought 2002 and threw it out the window once all the AI goals started coming from 30 or more yards out. Plus in 98 the shots didnt look like a missle going towards the goal.
