Best fighter pound for pound

I tried to explain the phrase "best fighter pound for pound" about Roy Jones Jr to my friend, but he couldn't understand it, and he claims that the statement is so diffuse and that it makes no sense at all (I think it makes perfect sense!).

I just can't see how this is so hard to understand...?

Do people here have a hard time understanding what that phrase means? Just want to know!

Well, I'm a Roy Jones Jr fan, so I'm hoping to see him against Bernard Hopkins later this year, but after what I've heard, it'll probably never happen.

Anyone know the deal with this?

Nope, clear to me. The best power-to-weight ratio.

Well, it looks like it isn't clear to you. Power has nothing to do with it. It basically means that if every fighter was the same weight, the best pound for pound would be the best. It usually has to do with technique, but obviously takes a lot into consideration. Clearly Roy Jones isn't going to beat Lenox Lewis, but that's because of weight, not any other factor. Because he's so much bigger, Lewis (or a heavyweight) can hit a lot harder and take more punishment than Jones (or guys in lighter weight classes).

You follow MMA closely, bro?

I watch some of it but I'm not the type of guy who watches every single fight out there. I only watch UFC now since it's on Spike TV and most of their PPV matches are on youtube. I watched a bit of Pride and TKO fights when I had the free preview of the Fight Network so now I only go on youtube to watch highlights or full matches.

I like Roy Jones Jr ..... but I think he's beatable...some new blood in the ring would be nice...we need another Miker Tyson (in his prime..before he got an appetite for ear) type.

He's very much beatable, yes, he's lost his three last matches (if I'm not completely wrong...?).

Plus, he's almost 40, and probably doesn't have many fights left in him.

I agree with you 10Ruud, we need some new blood in the ring, heavy weight boxing hasn't been very good the last years. We need some hungry boxers, like Tyson in the late 80's.

So uhm, none of you "sports fans" enjoy a good bout or what? Don't seem like...

Frijoles De La Hoya (38-4,30 KOs) vs. Mayweather Jr. (37-0, 24 KOs)

It's gonna be a good one, if Jr. doesn't run a marathon around the ring that is.

5 de Mayo (H) ...and that maricon better win too.

Yeah I can't wait for De La Hoya - Mayweather! Hopefully it lives up to the hype..

btw, whatever happened to David Tua? It looked like he was gonna be the next Tyson, is still remember his destruction of Ruiz early on in his career.

3 hours left to the big fight.. I been watching all the hype/interview shows today and I'm now fully convinced that I'd like to see Mayweather get bit in the sack by a Doberman..

YELLOW CARD: Untrustworthy
Haven't follow boxing in a looooooooong time. Only watching De La Hoya vs Mayweather because 1) all the hype that is surrounding it has draged me to it and most important 2) seems I am able to watch it for free over sopcast :mexican: :corn: :alex:

WOW they are walking into the ring and mayweather is already trying something daring. Walking in the mexican colors

The fight was a bit of an anti-climax IMO after all the hype. I guess it pretty much went down as expected though, solid technical fight with DLH pressing the action and Mayweather picking his counter-punches. Was an ok event overall, although I was convinced of one thing by the end of the night.... I'd definitely rather be watching MMA.

I like boxing too, but frankly any free Ultimate Fight Night on SpikeTV is more exiting than last night's $55 DLH-FM PPV.
