|TUTORIAL FOR MAKING AVI FILES!|
| |
---------------------------------------------
By John Bradley, A.K.A GoldenSpike on the Forums!
-------------------
What you will need:
A DivX codec (the new one please!)
Fraps (to make the recordings)
VirtualDub (to make the avi's into divX's)
-------------------
-------------------------
Links to get these files:
DivX codec - www.divx.com (then go to Downloads and get 5.0.2)
Fraps -
http://www.fraps.com/download.htm
VirtualDub -
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1_4_13.zip (then choose your mirror)
-------------------------
-------------
What they do:
DivX codec - Makes the quality of the video file excellent quality with a low filesize.
Fraps - Records the replay that you want in Fifa 2003, does it while you are watching.
VirtualDub - The program that turns that huge video file into a compressed small one.
-------------
------------------------
The tutorial (finally!):
Step 1 :
Download the DivX codec from the site above. Then install it onto your computer (i'd personally go for the free one without the ADAWARE).
Step 2 :
Open Fraps and configure the settings. This is the really really easy part. There are 3 boxes across the top, Sampling Rate, Overlay style, and the overlay corner. Put the sampling rate on continuous, the overlay style on transparent, and the overlay corner anywhere you want to put it, because all this is for is where you want to position where the FPS reading will be. Put it where it wont interfere with your game, and dont be worried, the
FPS reading wont be saved onto your .avi file, it's just a layer over the top to show you the current FPS. In the movie options box, tick the 'Enable video capture - Hotkey' option and leave the hotkey to 'F9'. This is the key you will press to commence the recording. The next bit is the FPS rate, you can set it to any FPS you want, but I find that 15fps makes the movie file at the right speed. Leave the other boxes and make sure nothing else is ticked, your ready to record!
Step 3:
Leave Fraps minmized (DO NOT CLOSE IT DOWN!) and start up Fifa 2003 (or any other game) make sure that the resolution is set to 640x480x32. I know this is low quality, but it is the only resolution that the program can record at, and if you record at a higher resolution it only records 640x480 of the window. Now, open a replay you want to record and when you get to the right point, hit F9 and the FPS reading should change to a red 'REC' sign this means you know it is recording. When you are recording don't be surprised if the game runs slow and jumps a lot, it wont do this in the recorded version, it's just because its recording and slowing down the running of the game. Now you have a video! Congratualtions! It will be saved in your fraps folder as a default. We aren't finished yet though, have you seen the size of the file!?
Step 4:
Close down Fifa if you havent done so and then rename the video file to something you can remember. Then open up VirtualDub and go to File-Open Video File (Ctrl+O). Now you can seet that you have the right file. Now goto Video and make sure that 'Full proccessing mode' is on or the compression wont work! Then still in the video drop down menu choose 'Compression'. OOOOOO so many options. Click the DivX 5.0.2 codec option and then click the 'configure' button in the same pop-up window. You have 4 tags, on the first one called 'DivX codec' there is one thing you want to change, the 'Encoding bitrate'. The higher this is the bigger the compressed file, I suggest 1000-1150kbps for a replay file. Then next to this tag there is the 'General Parameters' tag, don't worry about this one, go onto the next one called 'Advanced Parameters' and where is says 'Input DivX AVI file' click the 'select..' button and choose your video file again. and it will now fill up all 3 of those boxes. Then set the 'performance/quality' to whatever you want, the better the quality the bigger the file. I'd recommend 'Medium'. Ignore the 4th tag called 'Manage settings'. Click 'OK' on this window, and then 'OK' on the Codec selecting screen. Then finally go to File-Save as AVI (F7) and it will save your video file as a compressed one, give it a name and save it in the Fraps folder (should be default) it normally takes a little while so be patient! Now goto the Fraps folder and you have your compressed file! It should be a lot smaller than the other one and still have good quality! Now upload your file and your ready to enter the competion!
