Biggest young talents gone to waste?

Hendrik

Team Captain
Lars Ricken

Does anybody remember his winning goal vs. Juventus in the CL final of 97? Damn everyone thought we'd become a star and now he just plain sucks.

But not a waste...

The best winger in Superliga... He's in the NT now... sometimes even in the start eleven... so, defenetily, not a waste.

Oh and another talent gone to waste in England was danny cadamarteri who was at everton and was kinda like Rooney. The young guy comin on etc etc. He really brought great expectations.

Now he plays in div 2 or 3 I think?

Danny plays for us now, hopefully he can find some form at last. :)

Fernandez

Team Captain
Jean-Alain Boumsong...

I don't care if he won a dozen medals at Rangers, he destroyed his career by playing in Scotland.

Dani... so true... I remember the 96 olimpics and stuff like that...

JOCIVALTER

did a great season at Boavista
now is loaned to Varzim:kader:

Cadamarteri, yeah I remember the whole headlining when he scored a winning goal against Pool. I bought him in CM 1996/1997 I think and he developed into a pretty good player in virtual world. Shame about the fact in the real world tough.

Does anyone also remember des Walker of Newcastle, Ibrahima Bakayoko who could`ve been better than Drogba and then screwed up ? Florian Maurice was a waste as well, I remember him very well durin` his first year in Marseille, a baby faced predator with two strong feet and very agile. But some freakin` injury or something killed his career. And Stephane Guivarc`h, won the 1998 WC without scorin` a single freakin` goal and then I never heard about him anymore ( where the **** is he anyway ? )

I also remember Ricken, the goal against Peruzzi was pure class, never saw that comin`. He could`ve been a vital player for the Germany NT if he made to the top. Nanami was a total let-down, I just don`t understand it, he is technically better and got better attitude than Nakata but somehow he screwed up his chance in Europe, he just doesn`t have the confidence to command like Nakata.

Simone Inzaghi didn`t manage to develop as good as big brother Pippo despite the fact that he is physically stronger. Joining Lazio was a big mistake, he never really shone out between Salas, Crespo or Lopez. Ariel Ortega is also a waste, he always said that he doesn`t try to immitate Maradona, but whenever he`s playin` he can`t hide the fact that he is actually a Maradona wannabe. Very selfish and always wanna make spectacular runs and dribblings instead of passin` while he can. No European manager wants a egoistic player like that, and that`s why he can say goodbye to his career.

In the future there will be more and more wasted talents, my country is represented by Rigan Agachi. He went to PSV Eindhoven football school, and the coaches there said that he really got a good potential but for some reason our FA doesn`t want to help him by givin` him money to continue to go there, and because of his poor familly economic background his name just faded away . . .

Johnnier Montano

This kid was thought to have been the best prospect in Colombia and in all of South America too at 14, playing regularly for America de Cali at 15, leading the Colombian youths to the Toulon tournment at 16 and mightily impressing all, and being capped for the National squad at 16 also in the Copa America. This kid was Freddy Adu without the massive American media hype....he was the ideal attacking footballer because you could place him on the left wing/right wing/in the middle and even up at the front as a forward and you'd still get the same results with him.......goals, goals, and great goalscoring chances for others. His great performance at the Toulon tournament convinced Parma to purchase him (biggest mistake for him and for Parma aswell) They plunked down a lot of cash on a kid from seeing him in just one tourney....they were that convinced of his skills, but they didn't take into consideration all the side effects that come into play when signing someone of that tender age. They just poached him from his cocoon and planted him in the countrysides of Parma. I mean, Bolano was there, but they really didn't do a good job of easing him into the Italian culture.

He did really well in his first showings and impressed the likes of Fabio Cannavaro, Lilian Thuram and Almeyda and had them singing his praises, man. Then all of a sudden, his form dipped, then his confidence dipped and he wasn't adapting to Italy too well, so he was loaned out back and forth between Hellas Verona (a club well known for its very, very racist supporters) and Parma, then on to Piacenza where he disappeared on the club for quite awhile

Through all this....he's only 21 still........sheesh

There is a Montano who's playing in France in Ligue 1 with Istres, I think it's him but I'm not really sure

EDIT: In France, it's Victor Hugo Montano, the brother of Johnnier.

Johnnier plays in Ferrocaril Oeste in Argentina now.

Really? Haven't heard from him for quite sometime.......hey ULTRA, how about the Dalmat brothers? Weren't they the biggest prospects in French football (Stephane more so than his younger brother) four yrs ago? I hope he resurrects his very young career in Toulouse this coming season and returns to prominence

I'll add another portuguese to the list.

Joao Pinto... 33 now and in a small club and he didn't accomplish 1/3 of his potential. Still had his moments though, mainly for the national team.

Funny to see so many portuguese in the list but yes I guess we always underachieve, we had so many talent throughout the years and the best we could manage was the final of an Eurocup where we couldn't even beat Greece.

The Dalmat brothers played for Marseille many years ago. Stéphane is a bit better than Wilfried, who is playing in Ligue 2 with Grenoble after a 6 months in Lecce. Stéphane Dalmat is still a good young player in France, he has to confirm his potential.

In 2000, Marseille had William Gallas, Robert Pirès, Peter Luccin and Stéphane Dalmat in the team... But with our money problems, we had to sell them, Dalmat and Luccin to the ennemy of Paris :f***:

Maybe Luccin and Dalmat will be in France NT in few times...

Another wastes: NII LAMPTEY, the young player from Ghana who played with Anderlect when he was 14

GIANLUCA LENTINI, good with Torino but so crap with AC Milan

Sergen Yalcin, i don't even know what team he plays for anymore, but he was the most talented Midfielder to ever play for Turkiye, but he pissed everything away with his addiction to horse-racing and his nightlife.:kader:

As for Yalcin, I remember him playing for Besiktas. He did mention about betting on Besiktas beating Chelsea at the Bridge.

Totally forgot him. (Y)

I hope I don't see Freddy Adu to be spoken in a discussion like in this thread in the future.

More wasted talents:

Jordi Cruyff. Couldn't let go of his father's shadow. He had a tremendous potential, but his dad's inheritance was just too heavy for him.

Marcelo Salas. After leaving Lazio, almost disappeared. What a power striker he was. Now, he's in his second loan spell at River Plate from Juventus.

Lars Ricken. I know he was already spoken here, but damn! That 96/97 Champions League final winner against Juve doesn't allow me to forget him. A pitty he didn't turn out what he was ought to.

Hugo Leal. After leaving Benfica in a very incorrect way, lost himself. Went down with Atletico Madrid to the second league and there stayed until 2001. Joined PSG, but was injury-plagued, and was not giving chances to shine. Prefered to stay longer to earn good money. Joined FC Porto last weekend.

Rivaldo. After that wonderful 2002 World Cup he had, the way he got released by Barcelona, and the way he joined AC Milan. "Ended" his career too soon. Lets see if Olympiakos can still see the best of him. I highly doubt it.

Edmundo. If it wasn't for his temper, he would have stayed with Fiorentina, and maybe he could have helped the club reach higher achievements. Now plays for Fluminense. Lets see if much longer...

Roger. The most expensive player in Benfica history by that time. Almost 10 million euros (only passed by Simão, in the following season)... for this! Inconsistency, bad temper, lazyness, etc. He has much football in his feet, but he doesn't have the head to accomplish his real talent. On loan at Fluminense until the end of 2004.
