Agreed. I don't think we can really compare dutch clubs with English clubs, because of the massive gulf between the two leagues. Take England firstly, we have three massive clubs, who now are likely to get far in the Champions league. When I say far, I mean anywhere past the quarter finals, even possable winners. Outside these three in the EPL, we have a lot of smaller clubs but still of a reasonable size. i.e. anywhere between 25k-45k gates a week. These teams are capable of doing well in the Uefa cup, if they play at their full potential throughout the tornament. In the EPL, it is a lot closer, and as we have seen this year, a lot of the smaller clubs (Fulham, Birmingham and Charlton, have been pushing for a European place.) IF these teams do get into the Uefa cup, they could well get quite far, as we saw with Fulham last year. We qualified through the intertoto, and reached the third round. Admittedly, we should have got further. We were beaten by Hertha Berlin, who were a lot poorer than us.
However in Holland (The following is IMO) There are the big three like in England. However i believe that unlike England only Ajax out of the big three are Champions League quality. However, they are only just second round quality (if you see my angle.) PSV and Fayenoord (sp?) are only UEFA quality, the equivilent to the forementioned English teams. Outside of the Dutch big three, are smaller clubs such as Willem, Vitesse, or NEC, who IMO are the equivilent of lower table EPL standards.
Now I know we can't really compare the league;s in this way, but i believe it is a lot more acurate way of comparing the two, rather than the 'size' of the club.
